I first applied for disability in April 2011, I was denied so I hired a lawyer

who continues to fight for mine. I think hiring a lawyer is the best thing to

do. Persistance is important. Once approved you will receive benefits from the

time you first applied.

Some states are more strict than others. My son is not eligible for disability

but he is getting Social security income. I know someone who had botched carpel

tunnel surgery and could not work. It took like 2 years, many vocation classes

to see if she could work and many doctor and PT testimonials for her to get

everything sorted out. She hired a lawyer to get the claim put through and then

the rest of the 2 years was getting her wages to what they are supposed to be

and getting all the back pay in her vacation bank and other things her employer

tried to keep from her. Press hard and keep at it. I think a Lawyer or an

advocate would help move the processes along. Good luck and God bless.

> Hi Kellie -- what type of disability were you denied? Don't get discouraged

-- it is all too common. I was denied LTD after the 2 year mark and had to get

a lawyer to help me out and I won my case after a discovery. Then I was denied

CPP disability (Canada Pension Plan) which is normal, appealed and was denied

again. I was finally accepted right before my tribunal hearing. I would

recommend getting an advocate or lawyer to help with your appeal. Don't take

this personally -- it doesn't mean you are not entitled to benefits. Often the

wording of the documentation makes the difference of being accepted or not.

I was able to get Social Security after I hired a lawyer. It just may

be they turn people down the 1st time, especially if you are younger

than 50 or so.
