Guest guest
Hi Randee, I wonder what dose of Lyrica your daughter takes? I was on 450 a day but managed to cut down to 100 most days but go up to 200 when pain gets a bit worse. I am also on Cymbalta but not sure how much that helps but as my pain has been in good control now for over 6 months I do not want to experiment more - if it works keep with the program! With regard to weight gain since being on Lyrica I feel I am always hungry. The worse thing is that after eating a large meal I never seem to feel full - the saying '' I could eat that all again '' is v true!! I put on 14 lbs but have now lost it all and more. The secret for me is a combination of the Dukan diet (low carbs) plus swimming everyday. The exercise def helps both tethered symptoms but also takes away hunger - to an extent. Probably because you can't eat while swimming lol. Also the pain relief means I am able to exercise in first place so the hunger is worth (for me) bearing with and controlling with diet. Kind Regards and all the best Barry > Hi Randee, > > I also gained a lot of weight since I started on Lyrica, but it is the > only thing that helps my nerve pain. Guest guest
Thanks so much, Barry. I think it may be 300mg a day or it's 600 if such a thing is possible. She is on Cymbalta as well which seemed to be a bit better for her pain but not as good as prozac for her mood. She feels she cannot get out of bed without the lyrica which must be the case as she HATES the weight which in her case must be at least 40 pounds I would guess. Granted, her food choices have been awful and she has never been great at tolerating things that don't come easily..fortunately so much as..so self control has not exerted itself yet. Going so dramatically from a young girl who could eat anything and everything and be a pencil to within 6 months gaining so much weight was a difficult adjustment. I wish we had been warned of the weight gain possibility..or that I had looked it up. The pain has made exercise difficult. She is on Cymbalta as well. A new trainer at the health club to which we gave her a membership..the old one was just yelling at her thinking that was motivating, the club got rid of him LOL...worked at the rehab hospital Reeves was at in Rehab so we are hopeful he will work with her and might actually understand the spine. She is going to use my app that helped me lose 15 pounds ... you just put in your weight and height and say what you want to be and how many pounds a week you want to lose and it gives you the calories. Then it is also an easy cal counter and hopefully that will also teach her the calories in high fat foods aren't worth it..let alone my pitch which is to focus on being healthy and not on being thin. " So glad I' m not young anymooooore la la la " smiles, Randee Re: Re: Lyrica and depression? Weight gain. Hi Randee, I wonder what dose of Lyrica your daughter takes? Guest guest
Patty, That is great news! I think that if my girl's pain gets controlled she would also have better luck in focusing on the diet. I wish we had been told about the possible weight gain as maybe she would have been able to be focused on it initially before it got out of control. Maybe we were all in denial as it was so fast...and she was soooooooooo skinny ... at first we all thought well, she has stopped growing so she will get a bit more " womanly " ....passed that by. Sigh. I want her pain in control first, of course and then I want someone who will motivate her to want to be healthy.!!! Randee Re: Lyrica and depression? Weight gain. Hi Randee, I also gained a lot of weight since I started on Lyrica, but it is the only thing that helps my nerve pain. But now that the pain is finally more under control, I am able to focus on trying to diet and exercise again. I started the South Beach diet at the beginning of the year and have lost 20 lbs so far. I really have changed my habit of snacking continuously. Now I snack on carrots, celery and peanuts, and treat myself occasionally. The weight is coming off very slowly now, but it is coming off. Good luck to your daughter. I know I was terribly depressed about the weight gain, but now that the clothes are starting to fit better, I feel so much better.
