I ate a tiny tootsie roll and a cherry tootsie roll pop 3 hours after dinner

and 1 hour later my bgs were 99. Last year I probably ate 30 tootsie roll

pops and 10 regular size bags of sweet tarts before it was all over. ha And

a few Skittles.

Skittles used to be my drug of choice. :) I could eat them all day.

However, diabetes shed a new color of the rainbow on that ole Skittles bag.

Haven't had any in 27 weeks. I really craved them bad for a while but

haven't had any... even a small 15 gm of carbohydrate size bag for a snack...

because I am afraid that it might make me start to crave them again. So I

had 2 small things last night that satisfied my HALLOWEEN candy desire... and

stayed away from the Skittles altogether. :)

I have never liked Halloween as far as a holiday. But I loved the candy.

Now it's just another day.

Actually diabetes is changing my view on a whole lot of holidays. I think my

focus in the past has always been centered around the FOOD that would come

during the celebration of certain holidays, like Thanksgiving and

Christmas... and chocolate eggs at Easter and big cookouts on the 4th, etc.

But now I am having to learn to focus more on the relationship with family

and friends I will get to see during those events and the real depth of

meaning behind each of those days... rather than focusing on the food.

I believe God wants me to grow up a little and sorta has used the fact that I

have diabetes to help that progress along. :)

My how things change.

Also had a big piece of Costco pumpkin pie - BSL less than 2 hours

later was 110:)

It was a very Happy Halloween!

Didn't even touch one except to move it from the cupholder in my car. Also

went to a football game last night, it was 40 degrees and I resisted the hot

chocolate!

I told my youngest daughter - older one is too old to t or t and had to

cheer at the game anyway - to keep the candy in her room and if I see ONE

empty wrapper not thrown away I'm tossing it all. Since she's a messy one,

I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to ditch it pretty soon :)

I had about 5 Skittles. I can't resist them so I took one of those little fun

size bags with about 15 of them in it and I'll eat 5 a day. Last night by

blood sugar reading was 80 at about 10 PM, a half hour after I ate them.

I wasn't even tempted. I bought candy and gave it out to the kids

that came by, but didn't want any myself. In fact, I keep candy,

chocolates and a gumball machine in my office at all times for my

employees but I don't touch the stuff.

I love Halloween, though, and still get dressed up at the least

excuse. Last night at 9:00, after handing out candy, I went grocery

shopping in a black skirt, black boots, orange vest, black loose knit

sweater and a very tall witch's hat with a feather boa brim. Tonight

I'm throwing a Halloween themed Happy Hour for my department,

Since I was just back from ye olde doctor's office, I didn't eat any.

(Did have a couple of glasses of OJ, though.)

I had bought 210 candy bars for distribution on Halloween a month

ago (2 pkts of 105 each, from Sam's Club) and it was all gone by

6:45p.

You know, there are some parents skulking out there in the shadows,

sending their toddlers up the steps. The little things can hardly

lisp out " Trick or treat! " and they're out there soliciting sweets.

I have a strong suspicion that they have to share with their

parents or other protectors.

There is an enormous amount of obesity in this community. I

was told that it was the location of one of the earliest obesity

studies ever done, and with good reason. I start out very cheerful

on halloween, but after watching this endless parade of rather

desperate-looking adults with their kids (some of them take their

kids around in cars!) I'm depressed. I guess I'm weightist, to some

degree, but I console myself that I have a reasonable perspective

on this sugar habit business.

That said, I met some adorable little people last night! I've just

moved to this part of town, and I'm enjoying the kids in the

neighborhood.

Arch, apologizing for carrying on . . .

Way to go Shirley! I think concentrating on family and friends is the thing to

do. My kids, unfortunately are at the age that the food is important to them on

certain holidays. I just let them have their halloween pumpkins and am letting

them eat til they are sick of it.

I just buy kinds that I don't like -- like non-brand-name lollipops.
