Sent: Mon, Apr 30, 2012 5:01:20 PM Hi Group:-)there was this post today on Pema Chodron's FB Blog. Perhaps some of u'll have heard it b4, but for me it was the 1st time, and it really touched me. There's soo much in these mere few lines. Thought i'd share it with y'll:-) " Be Grateful To Everybody " If we were to make a list of the people we don't like-people we find obnoxious, threatening or worthy of contempt-we would find much about ourselves that we can't face. If we were to come up with one word about each of the troublemakers in our lives, we would find ourselves with a list of descriptions of our own rejected qualities. We project these on the outside world. The people who repel us unwittingly show us aspects of ourselves that we find unacceptable, which otherwise we can't see. Traditional lojong teachings say it another way: other people trigger the karma we haven't worked out. They mirror us and give us a chance to befriend all of that ancient stuff we carry around like a backpack full of granite boulders. " Be grateful to everyone " is a way of saying that we can learn from any situation, especially if we practice this slogan with awareness. The people and situations in our lives can remind us to catch neurosis as neurosis-to see when we've pulled the shades, locked the door, and crawled under the covers. " (Comfortable With Uncertainty)-K Designs. " " Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're already a mile away AND you have their shoes. " ~ a very pious intellectual
Guest guest
Sometimes we just see the plain deceit of others through nothing but plain intuition, instinct, common sense, simplicity, its whether we face that truth is one of wisdom, awareness to this truth. Guest guest
Thanks Vi Ci Vi:-)That is true, & i agree with u that a lotta times it's perhaps just plain deceit of others, which requires common sense to notice and realize, & it requires awareness & wisdom to face and accept that truth . But i believe Pema Chodron's quote didn't instinctly strike me in that way. Perhaps last year, if i would have come acoss this quote, i would have immediately come to a similar conclusion, as i do tend to be defensive. But today when i read it, i hadta really hold off on my automatic reaction, & stop and reflect on it, and try to use this quote as an exercise, & it actually did work, it did show me my own shortcomings that i had not reached a place of acceptance with. Becoz i tried to not only list all the people who have really truly deceited me, BUT ALSO all those who i FEEL have deceited me. I saw a difference. The no. of TRUE deceitful people actually is much shorter than i orginaally started with. I love this last line of hers, as it is not excatly implying being greatful to the obnoxious people, rather something MORE, over and beyond that..." Be grateful to everyone, is a way of saying that we can learn from any situation, especially if we practice this slogan with awareness."Thank you for your reply Vi Ci Vi:-)-K Designs.""
