Guest guest
Norma, I have the Smart Vest. The trainer walked me through the use the first time and I've used it twice a day for the last three months. Very happy with the results. Guest guest
All, I am new to the group…I was just diagnosed about 2 months ago. My doctor put me on the vest immediately. I have been using it twice a day and am not sure what state I would have been in without it but I do think that it is a good machine. debbys

Guest guest
Ann, I'm glad you like it. I was just curious about how it differed from the other vest which I have. I've had mine since 2002 or 2003. A few years ago mine quit working about two days before Christmas. To my surprise, the new one was on my front porch Christmas Eve--what a Christmas present! I was surprised with all the Christmas packages that it arrived so quickly. Since it is a medical device, they may expedite such equipment. Guest guest
I live just south of Ft. Worth, TX.   My husband and I are retired with a side job or two. We have two sons, 36 and 32. Both are married and the youngest has two daughters (3 and 7) who are the light of our lives. Bet you’ve heard that before! My hobbies are quilting, four wheeling and working in the yard….I will definitely not be four wheeling anymore and not sure how much working in the yard I will be doing in the future. My cough began last December and, after changing doctors in June, I was diagnosed in August. I had a CT scan, bronchoscope and endoscope and the cause remains a mystery. From what I read online, that’s not uncommon. I have found several  online sources for brochiectasis---can anyone recommend a good site on the disease? Since this is pretty new to me, I just am trying to get as much info as I can to slow down the progression. I have the pseudomonas and klebsiella germs so anything you all can tell me about keeping them at bay would be welcome. debbys From: bronchiectasis [mailto:bronchiectasis ] On Behalf Of ericnkayn@...Sent: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 10:43 PMTo: bronchiectasis Subject: Re: The SmartVest Welcome Debby! Guest guest
Debby, I would attack the the bacteria aggressively. You need to get them cultured to find out their susceptibility then hit them extra hard. I live just south of Ft. Worth, TX. My husband and I are retired with a side job or two. Guest guest
Hi Debby, Welcome to this group. I live in Round Rock, TX which is about 20 miles north of Austin. I am quite familiar with the DFW area. My husband worked in Arlington for 7 years and one of our sons attended college at UTA in Arlington and the other at North Texas University in Denton. One of our sons lives in Little Elm, which is about 10 miles southeast of Denton. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis 11 years ago. A few pseudomonas cells were noted on my initial endoscopy so that has been an ongoing problem. I have inhaled several different antibiotics, Tobramycin and Polymyxin B to try to keep it under control. I am not familiar with klebsiella, but I have heard it mentioned in this group. Guest guest
hi Norma, it was 'SmartVest' that donated theirs to me last year. Hill-Rom charge $18000 to buy in Australia, SmartVest don't as yet have a dealership arrangement with Australia, but theirs was $10,000. It was delivered totally free of charge, and very much thanks to Kay, who instigated this, and also with huge gratitude to the company for their generosity. I am one heck of a lucky woman, I really was in a bad way before I received it, it really IS my life-jacket!! no exaggeration... joy h
Guest guest
Hi Debbys if you go to the bronch web page there are articles posted there, some with links to various aspects of bronch, which should help you get started. As a general rule, I try to avoid 'blog' and 'chat' sites and look only into medical hospital or govt websites for medical information - far more likely to be accurate. Wikipedia aren't too bad, and have many links you can check and compare. Bronch is very very variable, and the causes often unknown, but we do share some pretty similar problems, mainly avoiding buildup of infxn, which then damages lung tissue more and so the whole process goes on.... sadly. But your dr sounds thorough in the tests and ascertaining what was happening, and getting a vest straight up is excellent. cheers joy h
Guest guest
Hi Joy, I am so glad you got the Smart Vest too and Kay's help with this. I checked their web site and was very impressed. I especially liked their carrying case. I noticed that they have a pink vest too. Since I have lost so much weight the last several years, I called the Vest Company to inquire about a smaller size for a thin person. They sent me an extra small thin adult size washable pink one. Since October is breast cancer awareness month in the US and I am a breast cancer survivor, it was very appropriate. Guest guest
Joy H, I love that you referred to your Smart Vest as your life jacket. It's been easy to use and so beneficial to me. I'm a thin person and there's enough velcro to fit it to my skinny body. I'm so very grateful Medicare and my secondary has covered it; very grateful. Guest guest
Hi Joy, just sent you an email asking about the vest and then found you here! I was looking at trialling the HillRom vest but it seems like you have got onto another mob. Can you post a contact and info on how you were able to get the vest when they are not represented in Australia? What about after sales and repairs? Thanks Carole > > Joy H, I love that you referred to your Smart Vest as your life jacket. It's been easy to use and so beneficial to me. I'm a thin person and there's enough velcro to fit it to my skinny body. > > I'm so very grateful Medicare and my secondary has covered it; very grateful. > > > To: bronchiectasis > Sent: Friday, October 14, 2011 9:39 AM > Subject: Re: The SmartVest > > >  > Hi Joy, > > I am so glad you got the Smart Vest too and Kay's help with this. > > Norma   > > > > > To: bronchiectasis > Sent: Fri, October 14, 2011 3:18:51 AM > Subject: Re: The SmartVest > >  > hi Norma, > > it was 'SmartVest' that donated theirs to me last year. Guest guest
hi Carole, so glad you found the group - we're a wonderful mob!! This last few years the bronch really started to get its' teeth into me, suddenly in and out of hospital 3-4 times / year... ugh... At least I have my IV at home now (not without its teething troubles but will get there..) and the SmartVest plus using saline nebs keeps infxn down to liveable levels most of the time. And at least helps much quicker recovery if do have exacerbation, welcome to another Aussie! joy h Cairns, Australia
Guest guest
Thanks Joy, I have emailed you with the gory details....looks like this group has had a bit of a reawakening since I was here last and pleased to see you are a 'local'. We all have different issues re access to physio, devices and meds so I hope we can help each other. Thanks too for the other folks input.Carole > > hi Carole, > so glad you found the group - we're a wonderful mob!!
