Re: changing from HC to Pred

Pred has a build up time of about 5 to 7 days. If you take away the

HC at the same time as introducing the pred you can suffer severe

adrenal suppression symptoms and believe me you don't want that to

happen to you as it is pure hell.

Here is how I recommend the changing over.

Taking 30 mg of HC already, but want to switch to 7 1/2 mg of prednisone.

First 5 days, keep the 30 mg HC, but also take 1 1/4 mg of prednisone.

The next 5 days take 25 mg of HC and 1 1/4 mg of prednisone. (These

second 5 days will give time for the extra steroid to burn off).

The next 5 days take 25 mg HC and 2 1/2 mg prednisone.

The next 5 days take 20 mg HC and 2 1/2 mg prednisone and so on.

Keep watch for acne or weight gain. If this happens, then after you

lower the HC, sit on the two doses for 10 days and then continue.

This works the same way for if wanting to switch to Medrol.

- I'm making the same mistakes!!!

I switched from HC to prednisone - cold turkey. It's already been about

2 weeks, or

more, so I think the time to transition slowly is too late. However, what about

switching

from prednisone to prednisolone? Should I also slowly transition? I did this,

cold turkey as

well 4 days ago.

---Oh, and can I ask about the " watching for signs of weight gain and

acne bit " ...

I've had acne for years and I've been putting on weight ever since I

started the HC. Are there any other ways of knowing if the dose is right?

So, what's you plan of attack. Are you in a postiton to go back to HC and

transistion

slower.

In total, I've been taking prednisone & prednisolone about 15 days so I don't

see the point

in going back to HC and trying again. I'll try to ride out the storm. I

actually feel as bad as

I did when I was on HC. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but am a bit worried

that pred will

do as much as HC did - basically nothing. I had 10 glourious days of the most

stable

temps and now they're in the toilet. Hopefully this will rebound in a few more

days.

But yes, like a pair of book ends...
