Pat, be aware that diabetics are also prone to gum problems too...try to keep

olives, (they're pretty lowcarb) watch out for those pits -- I cracked a

tooth last month on one!

Walnuts and pecans would make a good snack too if almonds are too much for

your teeth...but in moderation. Lots of anything can cause high BGs. Vicki

i've got major gum problems. i've had them for a

while. i'm guessing that means i've probably been

borderline diabetic for a while too. but since i

rarely go to the doctor, and hadn't had a blood test

in years (like 10), i guess this has been trying to

raise it's ugly head.

i love olives. can i have the ones stuffed with

pimento? pat

**Yup, all you want (I think, read the label). I use them in a slice of ham

rolled up with cream cheese....or right out of the jar. Dill pickles too

(not the sweet ones), and cucumbers and celery dipped in quacamole.

If you have hypertension, you might want to watch to amount of sodium you have.

With all the various medical problems I have, eating carbs is probally the best.

I don't pig out on them, but I don't low carb either. My last HBA1C was 6.1,

which my doctor and I were pleased with. I don't want the A1C of 7.0 (which

they say is excellent control). I'll settle for a 6.5 or lower.

i'm eating cream cheese like it was dessert (actually,

in moderation, but every day). i love it, and the fat

free is not bad, and has very little carbs.

i adore dill pickles, and one of my favorite " fast "

lunches is 2-3 slices of plumrose ham (i think 0

carbs) rolled around a dill pickle. it's enough that

i don't need bread, sweets or anything, and i've been

doing this for a long time (long before diabetes).

question: i have a show next weekend, outdoors, and

it will be very warm. what's good to take to have

for lunch? i will have a quickie breakfast here

(they serve us donuts there, and i won't even dare).

they have lotsa food out there to eat: hotdogs,

hamburgers, pasta, and barbeque (line is too long).

i'd prefer to take something to snack on, but i

probably won't take my kit with me. not sure whether

crackers would be good; rice cakes. suggestions

please!!!! pat

Invest in one of those insulated lunch pails, Pat...buy one of the ice packs

you put in the freezer...freeze it and put it in lunchpail it'll last for 7-8

hours at least. Then pack away! A slice or so of cheese...some sliced deli

roast beef...some olives...some " piggy puffs " ...maybe a pickle... Or maybe a

can of water packed sardines ( remember to bring a fork!) or a can of tuna

(bring the can opener...you get the idea.

Even a half cup of cottage cheese would probably be okay. Vicki

**Pat, get a small softsided cooler (Walmart). I wrap up roll ups and

things like that - guacamole in a jar, cream cheese in its container. Where

I live it's quite hot in the summer, and I do photo shoots or go to horse

shows (all day stuff) quite a bit. Couldn't live without a cooler. And no

to the carckers and rice cakes, if you're low carbing....sorry :-(

Sounds great... and if you eat this way for lunch, and or dinner, you may

want to try a TASTE like 1/2 cup of the pasta.... with no other carbs all

day, and see how you do.

well, what i WANT is the wonderful pasta that a friend

i'll try. i'm feeling good today, and have been VERY

GOOD. i got hungry just now and was eyeing the

crackers in the " kit " . instead, i took a chunk of the

summer sausage and mustard (0 carbs in the mustard;

only a few in the sausage). i need to eat a full

dinner now, but i'm thinking the salad with tuna will

work. i had sealegs in it the other day, and got

sluggish. could not understand why. the sealegs have

too much carbs, and i'm discovering that my numbers

have been at between 110-120 all day today. so i

think the carbs are good for me (like eliminating

them) pat

Sounds okay, Pat...but do buy some of that re-usable refreezable ice -- do

you know what I'm talking about? You put it in your insulated cooler and it

stays frozen solid for hours. And keeps everything in there cold. Available

at Walgreens etc. and some markets...costs about $3 each.

Pat,

I've discovered that my bss move much less if I pair a small fruit serving

with a piece of cheese (usually string if I'm on the go.) Also, the protein

helps you stay fuller a bit longer.

my bs is pretty high in the am, (130-135)

and i hate to add anything to the mix that will cause any further higher

I would watch the fruit....if you have a dawn rise that will really send it

higher. What about some yogurt...whole milk....not fat free....plain and

add some splenda flavored syrups for flavor?? Or splenda and some cinnamon

and maybe a dash of nutmeg??

i have a little blue thing that's in my freezer now.

i've used it for years. i also have a little

" thingie " that i use on mom when she gets cut. that's

soft. but i'm excited that i can eat so much. i

was trying to figure out how to " do " a salad and have

it fresh. i think the jerky, and pickle, and some

chicken, and maybe 2-3 olives will be just fine. and

i'll take some fruit for breakfast. pat (and leave

yep. i was gonna probably buy a sausage biscuit on

the way, or just take some of mine (sausage). i saw

a diabetic friend once buy a sausage biscuit and toss

the biscuit. i could not understand why. now i do.

LOL

i might just have some of that summer sausage with it,

or jerky, or something like that. or even nuking it

prior to going and having it room temp is still ok.

i will be eating while i set up, and it will be about

an hour after i get up. pat

this is funny, because my number was 139, and i was

excited. it was lower that usual.

i " needed " chocolate last nite, and snuck a Snackwell

prior to going to bed, and it was so wonderful. the

carbs are not huge, but there. i'm guessing i

probably need to dispose of them and just forego that

momentary pleasure of that also for now.

my numbers are pretty good during the day. yesterday

they were right around 110-120, but this a.m. i

cheated just a little. i added about 1 tbs. or so or

2% milk to my eggs, and has sausage and eggs. cream

in my coffee (diluted of course). i'll check in an

hour or so.

i'm tired of the " diet " already, but i just need to

check the recipes on the lowcarb list, and research

some on the internet, and then just eat a salad with

my meal. and i realize that some deli roast beef

with horseradish (and yep, i'll check the label first;

i think horseradish is a root thingie) will be ok.

and mom had a roll on her plate yesterday and i

grabbed it before thinking. i had one bite,

remembered, and trashed it. LOL the hardest thing

i've ever done. pat (I HATE CARBS!!)

Just FYI, " peanuts " are not real nuts. They are a legume (like beans), and have

more carbs than the " real " nuts such as the others you

mentioned. Some of us can eat them, but as you know, eat, test, eat, test, eat

test!!! lol.

No problem with roasting.

Re- " label reading " .

Pay no attention to the " % " on the label. That only relates how a serving

compares to a day's calories (usually 2000cal/da).

What you need is the " grams of carbs per serving " & " serving size " . These are

the things you need to know to control your carb intake. It

is how many grams of carbs you take in that you must know.

i hate yogurt. actually, i hate breakfast. i'm

gonna search for some " cookies " like breakfast bars or

whatever. i'm sure there's something out there that

is low in carb and i can get it this week. i'm on a

time thing this week, and don't want to go searching,

but i really want to not crash out there. pat
