I am confused about the carbohydrate theory. Hi Ninaxx, Diabetes is not a " one size fits all " . Each individual is different. Some people can eat more carbs than others. The best thing to do is eat foods, then test to see the results. For awhile, you may want to keep a journal of what you eat, how much, if you exercised after eating and your bg readings. This will be beneficial to your doctor as well as helping you to understand what you can eat. Post any questions you have. Diabetes can be confusing and overwhelming, but it won't take long to learn what you can and cannot eat. Hugs Eunice

When i was 1st diagnosed with diabetes 7 months ago I was not overweight. I have gained 15 lbs since, and I am afraid it is going to keep going up. I quit eating all the carbs and then started eating more protein and fat to make up for the carbs. I have my numbers under control because I no longer eat carbs, but now am having a weight problem. I keep trying Atkins, but I keep gaining. My dietitian is no help because she tells me to eat a balanced diet with 45 g of carbs per meal. That's more carbs than I ate before being diagnosed. WOW How can you eat a balanced diet with diabetes? I am way confused.......... Kat

Guest guest
even with Atkins you still have to keep the portion of meat to 3 ozs. Is the 15 pounds increased your size. extra protein and exercise will increase muscle which weighs more than fat. I loose weight when I do Atkins, but you have to minimize the meat and the fat. It is not an all you can eat deal. Most 3 oz portions of meat are about the size of the palm of your hand. Like a regular size pork chop. A quarter ponder would be 4 ozs of hamburger. I know we are all different and this does not work for everyone but I am still losing weight with the 45 carbs and I am having to look for the extra cabs and usually resort to fruit, except at dinner where vegetables will do the trick.. and while I try and stay away from bread. A slice will give me 15 carbs. Re: Re: carbs In a message dated 11/26/2002 9:11:52 AM Central Standard Time, ninamcd30@... writes: > Hi all. > > I am a newly diagnose type 2 diabetic. The high-fat diet in the Induction Phase is only supposed to be for about three weeks, to jump-start weight loss. Susie
Guest guest
mmm so pizza and a long walk just might do the trick... mmmmm ... good idea. Hi Carolyn, I had pizza for lunch today. I had 3 slices, but only ate the crust of one slice. It was so good. After eating, I went shopping so I got a lot of walking in. I parked a long ways from the entrance to the mall. I walked up the escalator. Did a lot of walking in the mall, then Wal-Mart. I didn't get home until around 4:30. I did not test today but have in the past after eating pizza and got a reading of 89. I do not care for fast foods. Maybe once or twice a year I'll go to 's. Guest guest
HI Nina welcome!!! A lot of diabetes educators in America are now having us count carb servings or grams. I can eat 2 servings of carb at any meal…(1 serving is…1 slice of bread, small potato, ½ c rice or beans, fruit, cup of milk etc)….. sus Re: carbs Hi all. I am a newly diagnose type 2 diabetic.
