Could you please tell me if they are still advising walking for bronchiectasis ?

I was held up for a breathalizer the other week, and couldnt find enough breath

....very embarassing.

Absolutely Pam, a nurse giving me a pulmonary function test told me "the people with this who exercise live a lot longer than those who don't". She said "I see it every day. Patients who don't exercise go down hill much more quickly." Getting as much exercise as you can and increasing your exercise tolerance is the best thing you can do for yourself. Resistance training is also important, hand weights in front of the TV are easy and inexpensive. The sports stores have booklets with various weight exercises one can do, and the weights come in dozens of sizes (weights). Good luck.

hi Pam,

with bronch you sure don't need to pay $$ to do aerobics - making the bed made

me puff decades ago .. Walking is great, or swimming.

Breathalyser: has happened to me, cop didn't believe me... I now have a letter

in glove box from GP, explaining lung condition limits breathalyser capacity.

Next RBT I mentioned the letter & that if put finger over the end of the white

plastic tube this registers a reading (RBT registers basal lung O2, bronch

reduces basal LF for most of us). Was a nice cop that time, no problems...

Walking: anything you can do is vital. After hip surgery & much-reduced

mobility even with saline 6% and a SmartVest still got build-up of infxn ... by

week 6 started 14-day IV abx. Too unwell to do even satisfactory hip physio ...

So, moral of story is: yes keep walking, as much as & comfortably fast as you

can. I find walking around our Nat parks is great (choose easy/medium grade),

ascents make me puff, descents give me a rest, body gets a workout.

Look up a botanist or birdos group, go walks with them - often a gentle ramble,

but through all kinds of terrain, fresh air... interesting people.

cheers

joy

That's very true, one can just go out the door and walk! The key is doing it regularly, just like with any exercise. And try to increase the amount of walking you can do.Kay
