Hi Dee

I noticed that you said that the only worry we have is HPV and cancer of the

cervix

Most HPV is painless, and truly NOT as dangerous as they make it out

to be, Our ONLY concern is getting cancer of the cervix....

WAIT....... not that that's not serious!!... but............. they

know that 95% of all positive pap tests ARE caused by the

HPV...BUT..... of the almost 100 types of DNA of the HPV... only a

very very few are considered the precursors to cancer...the other 95%

are harmless, no more worry than a wart on your finger.

Can I just say here that HPV is a risk factor to vulvar cancer also. I was

told I had abnormal pap on the cervix (nothing else) and was told to have

laser treatment. I did not ask any questions just left it up to the gyn. I

trusted him. I had absolutely no idea that wart virus/ hpv was a risk

factor to cervical cancer let alone vulvar cancer. I am not trying to cause

panic here either but we need to be inpowered with the knowldege so that we

all have a better understanding and insight to our own gyn health.

I know what you are saying about things being overdone on the vulva however.

I am just happy that we can lay the cards on the table on this line so that

we can get some discussion going so in the long run someone will hear our

voices.

I hope I dont cause any extra anxiety by speaking like this but I believe

that we must speak out. Sorry if I do this to any of you.

I had heard on the grapevine that oneday we may be able to tell what sort of

hpv we have with a urine test. This is only hearsay but it would be great if

this was so.
