After trying to find out a little bit about this book I've come to the

conclusion that it's best to ignore it and stick with ACT.

While it may have some passably good advice, it seems to be buried among talk of

a 'higher power' and other mystical new age woo woo.

For example, one reviewer on Amazon included these fragments from the book:

" Tool No. 1 - 'Reversal of Desire': 'Focus on the pain you're avoiding; see it

appear in front of you as a cloud. Silently scream 'Bring it on!' Also: 'Feel

the cloud spit you out and close behind you. . . As you leave the cloud, feel

yourself propelled forward into a realm of pure light.' "

Screaming at your pain until it spits you out and hurtles you into a realm of

pure light? As a skeptic who values good, solid research and the scientific

method as a way of finding out what's true and what's not, I just don't buy it.

Plus, ACT is about accepting our pain and moving forward, not defying it until

it gives up and spits us out.

On a different note, I'm looking forward to reading Wiseman's new book

'Rip it Up' (http://tinyurl.com/88qvn9o). From the little I've read about it, it

seems to be based on good, solid evidence.

Cheers,

Stan
