Guest guest
Hi All, this morning, after a few puffs on the Tobi, I found my breathing became more difficult and labored. I added a vial of Saline, however it did not help so I stopped and used my emergency inhaler, and also drank some hot tea. I then felt OK and went back to sleep since I awake every day at 4:30AM to nebulize. When I awoke, I continued to nebulize the balance of the Tobi and I felt OK. This is not the first time I have had this reaction, however I know that I need this medication and do not want to stop it. I find after a few days (of the 2 week "on" session), it does not affect my breathing. It seems to happen when I begin the 2 weeks "on" sessions. Has anyone else experienced this? EILEEN Subject: inhaled antibiotic, ColistinTo: bronchiectasis Date: Monday, September 26, 2011, 5:35 PM Hi All, Has anyone in this group used the inhaled antibiotic, Colistin? My infectious disease doctor prescribed this inhaled antibiotic for me to use 15 days each month after my most recent hospitalization for pseudomonas pneumonia; however I will not be able to use it as a 15-day supply costs $2,000. I was admitted to the hospital August 5 for 14 days with another pseudomonas pneumonia.. I was treated with iv Azactam and inhaled Colistin. I was admitted again on August 27 for 6 days. Since my fever was quite high, they did a blood culture, and the infectious disease doctor was called in. He increased the strength of the Azactam. I was there for six days and then sent to a nursing home for two weeks of iv and inhaled antibiotic. The last admission to the hospital for pseudomonas pneumonia was the 8th one since my first one in 2008. I wonder what I am not doing correctly to have had so many infections in this time period. Guest guest
hi Eileen, in Aus we generally only have Tobra nebs for exacerbations, but sometimes, yes, I've been so s.o.b that I use a SMALL dose of atrovent and saline nebs - if too much I get bad shakes and heart-race that doesn't settle for hours. Then I find can tolerate other nebs as needed. BUT I'm pretty sure you're supposed to have a break in between using one neb then an abx. Better to check with Dr or pharmacist on this - would also depend on what you're using. My guess is it's probably infx causing the breathlessness rather than Tobi ?? Have you checked this out with your Dr? Good luck luv joy h
