Guest guest
Our Humana is an HMO and covers everything. EILEEN Subject: inhaled antibiotic, ColistinTo: bronchiectasis Date: Monday, September 26, 2011, 5:35 PM Hi All, Has anyone in this group used the inhaled antibiotic, Colistin? My infectious disease doctor prescribed this inhaled antibiotic for me to use 15 days each month after my most recent hospitalization for pseudomonas pneumonia; however I will not be able to use it as a 15-day supply costs $2,000. I was admitted to the hospital August 5 for 14 days with another pseudomonas pneumonia.. I was treated with iv Azactam and inhaled Colistin. I was admitted again on August 27 for 6 days. Since my fever was quite high, they did a blood culture, and the infectious disease doctor was called in. He increased the strength of the Azactam. I was there for six days and then sent to a nursing home for two weeks of iv and inhaled antibiotic. The last admission to the hospital for pseudomonas pneumonia was the 8th one since my first one in 2008. I wonder what I am not doing correctly to have had so many infections in this time period. Guest guest
Norma and Eileen, your divergent experience with Medicare coverage and supplemental coverage is scary! In a bit over a year I'll be eligible and it seems terribly confusing! It sounds like the company Norma chose is not as good as Eileen's Humana. Yes? Why would anyone choose any company but Humana. Are there other factors at play here? So confusing! Guest guest
Kay,Read more carefully Humana doesn't cover Tobi. She has an Advantage plan which replaces all of Medicare for coverage.Very confusing system we have. Guest guest
Wonder what the price differences are for Eileen's coverage; monthly, co-pays, deductibles, etc. Sounds like maybe the monthly premiums would be high but the deductible and co-pays not an issue? Eileen, would you mind explaining for this newbie to all things Medicare? Thank you! Guest guest
I wonder how much and what percentage of the total premium Humana charges your employer pays through your benefit package for employees? I do not have employer sponsored or subsidized health insurance and I'm sure I won't when I reach Medicare age, either. This could make a very big difference in monthly premiums and co-pays, I think. Thanks for your information. It is educational! Guest guest
I am self employed so I don't know the answer to your question. Humana is deducted from my Social Security payment each month. It's best to go to their web site. http://www.humana-medicare.com/humana-medicare-plans/humana-gold-plus-hmo.asp EILEEN Subject: inhaled antibiotic, ColistinTo: bronchiectasis Date: Monday, September 26, 2011, 5:35 PM Hi All, Has anyone in this group used the inhaled antibiotic, Colistin? Guest guest
Wow, you are self employed, too. I can't believe you get good insurance coverage for $100 a month! Super. We now pay Anthem Blue Cross $1,568 per month premium, then have to pay all medical expenses up to our $4,000 deductible, each! It is killing us! I have had to cut back on dr visits I should be making. Thanks for your input Eileen.
