Tell your Dr this. Some drs are shocked when patients want to take proactive measures. Your DM won't go away, but it sure can be managed. Who has the biggest investment in your staying healthy? You, of course, not your Dr. Carol T T2 D/E (2/99)
Guest guest
Good thinking, Patsy! Probably cheaper in the long run, too - I have to pay a co-pay every time I see my doc even tho I have insurance. Everyone has their own favorite meters but I really like my new Ultra meter - it uses a smaller sample of blood -- you can actually use it on you arm instead of fingertips -- the lancet device that comes with it is practically pain-free, you get results in 5 seconds and it's small and easy to carry, nice little case too. There's also a partial refund coupon available in the package. If you can get your doc to write a prescription your insurance may cover it. Recently I've decided that I want to check it myself so that I will know if it is under control all the time. I'm tired of going there and I think its time that I take responsibity for my Diabetes. Guest guest
Plus the fact you have no assurance that the meter in the doctor's office is any more accurate than yours' Jim PatsyK wrote: > Hi Sara, > I am never sure of my readinds. Patsy -- Patsy Hi Patsy- how can you tell that your bs is under excellent control without a meter? I am new to this and without my meter I wouldn't have a clue. E No, I don't have a meter because I had been keeping my blood sugar under excellent control and my doctor didn't want me to have one until it was absolutely necessary. The plain and simple fact is ..I cheated on my diet. My sister was a diabetic and she became so obsessive about checking her blood sugar that it nearly drove her crazy but in the end it really didn't matter how high her blood sugar was because she died from breast cancer. Guest guest
What a pain to go to the drs that often. Much easier to test at home. Did your dr tell you what your numbers are? <<Hi Sara, I am never sure of my readinds. I go to my doctors office 3 times a week and let them check it. Guest guest
I just sent away for that meter. I have been using accu chek but I like the idea of giving my fingers a rest. <<Everyone has their own favorite meters but I really like my new Ultra meter - it uses a smaller sample of blood -- you can actually use it on you arm instead of fingertips -- the lancet device that comes with it is practically pain-free, you get results in 5 seconds and it's small and easy to carry, nice little case too.
