Guest guest
Hi guys.Do you know the work of German psychiatrist Viktor ? Do you, ? Some years ago I read some of his books about his Logotherapy and found it wonderful, but thw whole thing was too theoretical to have any theraeutical effect. Then, when I discovered ACT, I thought: "Oh, My God, it is a broader and more thechnical version of Logotherapy". l based his whole system on the meaning of life. He would say to his patients "Don't try to solve your so called problems, but focus on doing what you have to do, that thing that only you can do and no one else." His motto was "He who has a why can stand any how". Besides, he actually created what I see as a defusion technique, which he called paradoxal intention. It consists in willing precisely the thing that you fear. So, for example, a panic patient would start to repeat to himself: "I am having a panic attack. I want to have one. This time I'll see if it can really kill me".
Guest guest
It seems hard to just have a panic attack without somehow judging it from some perspective or another. I guess defusion is just about whether I buy into that judgement.Interesting comparison. What is we reword it? " I am having a panic attack. I will watch what happens. This time I will see how it plays out. " D Hi guys.Do you know the work of German psychiatrist Viktor ? Do you, ? Guest guest
Many folks in the ACT community admire the work of Victor l. For example, I talk about him in both The Happiness Trap and The Reality Slap. ACT is not based on or derived from logotherapy, but there is plenty of overlap, as you’d expect from two models that place such importance on finding meaning in life.
