Allie,

I do not have a weblink to Dr. MC's presentation. The slides can be found in

the File section of " LandauKleffnerSyndrome " Yahoo group. Dr. MC's own child

has the diagnosis of LKS. He gave that presentation at a conference before he

published the book titled " Autism and Its Medical Management: A Guide for

Parents and Professionals " . I have not read the book but believe that the book

covers the information in his presentation.

>> I found this info in one of Dr. MC's (a well known neurologist in Sacramento)

old presentation decks:

>>

>> - elevated cytokines in epilepsy an autism include IL-1, IL-6, MCP-1,

TNF-alpha, TNF-R1, BDNF, and others.

>> - elevated inflammation may alter NMDA receptors and sensitivity to

glutamate; also GABA receptors through neuroglial actions. These changes can

occur pre- or post-natally.

>> - These may also alter the superoxide dismutase activity levels and oxidative

damage found by some researchers.

>> - There may be unifying possibilities here with some of the white matter

changes noted on MRI could be the result of this type of neuroglial

inflammation, and some retrograde pontocerebellar tract degeneration can also be

from the activity.
