I am so sorry to hear about the pain your family and child are going through. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you mean by ‘his adrenals are all in red’? Did you have a SPECT scan of the adrenal glands? If not, what type of scan was it? Thank you. From: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism [mailto:BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism ] On Behalf Of georgiasand32Sent: January-02-11 1:20 PMTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Enhansa, Pycnogenol, GABA for a Manic Kid Hello. My son has been taking 600mg of Enhansa for a couple of months and we have not seen any of the telltale rashes etc from this dose. I would really like to hear from anyone here who has gone above this dose. Is it safe to go higher than this? With my son it seems like only the most intense doses/treatments are capable of breaking through to him.I am also interested in learning more about Pycnogenol as I have read that this is a good anti-inflammatory as well. Does this come in a liquid form? Finally, am interested in finding a liquid GABA or some other type of liquid supplements that can be used for calming and to reduce his ANGER. My son has started talking (not sentences, just two or three words here and there to point something out to me) several months ago so I thought this would help with his frustration and anger but I was very wrong (as usual) and he is more aggressive and angry (mostly toward me) than ever. He is very, very manic and hard to take. We gave him Calm-PRT for a while but saw nothing from this. From a recent test it shows that his adrenals are all in the red, he is in that constant fight-or-flight mode, or as the doctor put it, constantly on the verge of having a heart attack. Thanks for any help.

My son never developed skin rashes when on 600 mg Enhansa daily. One time I

mistakenly gave him 1200 mg (I forgot he already had a capsule that day and gave

him another capsule later the same day), he broke out rashes for a few days. He

is not on Enhansa now; he takes Botanical Treasures made by Natura Health

Products. I like this herbal blend a lot. Since we would take almost all the

ingredients individually, if not for this blend, it is a convenient product for

our family. Like most of the herbs, this blend is rich in phenols. So

depending on individual' sensitivity to phenolic acid, high dose might not be

beneficial.

Here is the product information:

http://www.naturahealthproducts.com/product/botanical-treasures-15.cfm

It contains the whole herb Turmeric, instead of curcumin extracted from

turmeric. It also contains green tea extract which is a good source for

L-theanine - this reduces anxiety and enhance sleep quality (stimulating the

production of alpha brain waves) and mood. L-theanine increases the production

of GABA in the body. Holy basil is another good herb in this blend. The

adrenal stress glands play a key role in the inflammatory and immune system

response both in the brain and in the rest of the body. Holy basil helps in

normalizing inflammatory response and optimizing adrenal gland activity

(balancing cortisol levels). Holy basil also regulates blood sugar and protects

blood vessels and central nervous system (COX-2 inhibition).

I take Botanical Treasures myself for reducing symptoms of carpal tunnel

syndrome.

As for Pycnogenol, my son takes Enzo:professional made by a New Zealand company

Enzo Nutraceuticals.

http://www.enzogenol.com/Default.aspx?page=1690

I used a couple of other brands of pycnogenol in the past and did not see the

good gains that we are seeing with Enzo:professional. It is in encapsulated

powder form. In our case, I feel that pycnogenol works synergistically with

vinpocetine - the later dilates blood vessels in the brain while the former

increases blood flow in the brain.

My son also takes Zithromax 500mg once a week. He has been taking Botanical

Treasures on and off for about a year. I reintroduced vinpocetine and

pycnogenol roughly at the same time when I started him on Zithromax a few months

ago. Zithromax, one of the so-called macrolide antibiotics, is also an

anti-inflammatory and immune modulator. Macrolide antibiotics are

bacteriostatic - they do NOT kill bacteria already in the body but prevent them

from replicating. My son's doctor has him take one dose weekly for treating

Strep-indcued brain inflammation. It is a bit like Motrin in this regard. SCIA

proposes to treat microglial activation (brain inflammation) with ibuprofen

(prescription Motrin).

Hope this helps.

L Theanine has done wonders for my son. It makes him very calm and relax it also

helps him to concentrate better and speek in a much relaxed way.

I have heard in other groups that GABA make the kids hyperactive instead of calm

and it maybe becuase of the fillers in it or perhaps it does not agree with the

kids.

Fillers are an important factor. I recently watched a video of a dr describing how most vitamins contain magnesium stearate. This, as told by this dr, creates biofilm in the gut. Anyone who has any comments on biofilm, I would be very eager to know more about it and if there is evidence of this chemical creating biofilm. I went through all of our vitamins and found it in most of them. Last spring I did a spring cleaning to "green" our supplements. I went through my kitchen cupboard to throw away all supplements containing magnesium stearate and titanium dioxide. This topic was well discussed in this board, including what brands are considered clean supplements. You can search the archive to read those old posts. Here I copy and repost one of my old posts on the subject of how to choose clean supplements:-------------------------------------------------------------------------1. Prefer supplements that are made of natural foods and herbs over synthetic nutrients. Food-based supplements are easily assimilated into the cells of our bodies.2. Prefer supplements that are made of organic whole food over the extracts of single nutrients from food. Whole food supplements provides enzymes and cofactors needed to metabolize the nutrients from the same food sources. 3. Watch out for potential contamination, especially when selecting natural metal chelators such as garlic, chlorella, cilantro, turmeric supplements, etc. Go for the brands with long-lasting good reputation or those who are certified by a 3rd-party for free of metal contamination. 4. Avoid supplements that are made of GMO ingredients. 6. Use the brands that are free of additive, binders, fillers, excipients, and artificial colorings and flavorings. Below is a list of inactive ingredients that might be used in the supplement manufacturing process. Read the labels of the products carefully to avoid these ingredients, for they are harmful to your health when used in long-term.7. Avoid tablet form. Choose liquid, capsule, or powder form. Tablets ALWAYS contain excipients. This is how they are made; they cannot be made without excipients and binders. What are excipients?Excipients are binders, fillers and “glues” that are typically non-nutritive substances in nutritional products. These substances often test toxic.Just a few examples of questionable excipients commonly found in nutritional products:Magnesium stearate - a cheap lubricating agent; research shows it to be immune-compromisingMethyl paraben - a benzoate family member; a known cancer-causing agentMicrocrystalline cellulose - a cheap fillerSilicon dioxide - a cheap flowing agent (common sand)Natural flavors - an AKA for MSG (monosodium glutamate), a well known neurotoxic agentMethacrylic copolymer - methacrylic acid, a component of the methacrylic acid copolymer, has been reported to act as a teratogen in rat embryo cultures.Triethyl citrate - a plasticizerTitanium dioxide - used for color; liver toxicCorn starch - typically from cheap GMO corn; can invoke allergic responsesTalcum Powder - a common excipient rarely not listed on product labels; a suspected carcinogenOther Questionable But Common Tableting and Encapsulating AgentsD & C red #33 Propylparaben Hydroxypropyl methylcelluloseHydroxypropyl cellulose Polyethylene glycol Red ferric oxide-orange shadeMethyl p-hydroxybenzoate Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate Sodium acetateMethylparaben Sodium metabisulfite EudragitAre You Really Eating These In Your Supplements? - Common Tableting and Encapsulating AgentsPovidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone or PVP):PVP is a synthetic polymer used as a dispersing and suspending agent in virtually all encapsulated nutritional supplements; considered to be a potential carcinogen.Magnesium Stearate: This commonly used excipient can be made from animal or vegetable sources. It is used as a flowing agent and lubricant. It is insoluble in water and may hinder the absorption of nutrients. Research shows it suppresses the immune system.Maltodextrin: A refined sugar obtained by the hydrolysis of cornstarch. It is used for flavor, as a texturizer and bulking agent. Maltodextrin may contain free glutamate (MSG), which occurs as a result of processing. MSG is a known neurotoxin.Cellulose Starch: A starch made from plant material that is used as filler, binder and disintegrant. Starches processed from corn contain free glutamate (MSG), resulting from processing. MSG is a known neurotoxin.Silicon Dioxide: Silica is a transparent, tasteless, powder that is practically insoluble in water. It is the main component of beach sand and is used as an absorbent and flow agent in supplements. It may hinder digestion or the uptake of other nutrients and deplete HCL.Resin: Resins are used as binders and aid in water resistance. They may be of plant or synthetic origin and are used in lacquers, varnishes, inks, adhesives, synthetic plastics and pharmaceuticals. Synthetic forms include polyvinyl, polystyrene, and polyethylene. Toxicity is dependent on the ingredients used in the manufacture of the resin.Dicalcium Phosphate: A mineral complex of calcium and phosphorous that is commonly used as a tableting aid, filler or bulking agent. Phosphates can induce the same symptoms as MSG in those who are extremely sensitive to MSG.Polysorbate 80: A non-ionic surfactant that is a polymer containing oleic acid, palmitic acid, sorbitol, and ethylene oxide and is formed by microbial fermentation. It is used as an emulsifier, dispersant, or stabilizer in foods, cosmetics, supplements and pharmaceuticals.Titanium Dioxide: This is an inorganic, white, opaque pigment made from anatase (metallic mineral) that is often used in supplements as a whitening agent. Titanium dioxide is a pro-oxidant. It is also used in paints and coatings, plastics, paper, inks, fibers, food and cosmetics.Polyethylene Glycol 3350: This excipient is used as an emulsifier, binder, and surfactant. It improves resistance to moisture and oxidation. Polyethylene is a polymerized ethylene resin and glycol is a dihydric alcohol.Pharmaceutical Glaze: This is actually shellac used to coat vitamin tablets. Shellac is insoluble in stomach acid and supplements coated with shellac are difficult for the body to break down and assimilate.LiminFillers are an important factor. Limin,

Could you tell me what brand of vinpocetine your son takes? This product has

been recommended many times for my son as well, but I haven't done the research

yet of which brand exactly is the best.

Thanks,

Krassi

Krassi,

I use BioActive Nutrients brand. Each capsule contains 10 mg of vinpocetine.

Be sure to start low and slow. I would suggest to open the capsule and start

with 1 mg. Build it up from there. Take one single dose during the mornings.

It might affect falling into sleep at bedtime if it is taken during the PM

hours.

My son is about 60 pounds. He takes 10 mg now.
