Guest guest
Just had surgery Aug.6th for Occult tight filum terminale. My conus was at normal level. Dr said it was so tight it had thinned out. Took him 1 1/2 hr to find it total surgery time was 3 1/2 hrs. I'm wanting to know how recovery went for those of you that have had this. I'm 2 weeks out and still need pain meds and feel wiped out. My tailbone area was numb and is now starting to ache and feel like pressure. I had Posterior fossa decompression in January for Chiari malformation 1. The TCS surgery has been tougher to go thru. The good part is no more burning feet and the pain, tingling, numbness in my legs is 90% gone. Happens occasionally but not like before. I immediately upon awakening from surgery noticed the soles of my feet not burning. Had that symptom for over 8 yrs. Thanks for any responses. Liz C. Guest guest
Hi Liz ~ glad you are having such great improvements already! You are SO EARLY in the healing stages, don't worry about being on pain meds, that is totally normal. I had the same surgery but my cord was low lying and they went in through the sacrum to cut the filum. My recovery was really tough, had a spinal leak after I got home. And I had real issues with my legs being weak and jelly type feeling for a long time, and lots of back pain. I would say it took me about a year and 1/2 to really fully recover. I do have spondylolisthesis though to complicate things, which I had a spinal fusion for 2 years after TC surgery. My advice -- don't try to overdue it but at the same time make sure you are doing the walking you are told to do, etc. I started physio about the 6 week mark after my surgery. My nerves definately went into shock and made things worse for me before they got better. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Guest guest
Hi Liz I'm almost 2 years post open and still on pain meds! The worst was the 1st year. Now I'm able to do almost anything. I finished a pre nursing program, started paramedic and starting nursing in October. I did have improvement in leg and bladder but the moderate severe lower back pain has not gotten much better. post surgery I also had weird pain severe in legs.. like someone beat me with baseball bat! It was so bad I had to go to er once because I couldn't stand it after 6 hours! But that went away after few months. I was back in sales job approximately 1 1/2 myths after surgery. Right now it shows I have scar tissue but no retether. Let me know if there is anything specific I can answer and speedy recovery! ------------------------------ >Just had surgery Aug.6th for Occult tight filum terminale. My conus was at normal level.
