Guest guest
Was wondering if anyone had good strategy for flare ups I could try? They have been minimal and generally I am great. Now dad in hospital and they wont release records for second opinion .. stress! ! And I'm back on neurontin barely able to sleep because my legs kill me! I have been trying to rest etc but am in full blown flare up now. I'm power of attorney for him so staying home not an option. Have done heat and vitamins .. Suggestions that are practical in time crunch?
Guest guest
Flare-ups suck! I've been in one this month after doing so great for quite awhile. Rest, ice, laser therapy are what seem to help me but also just time..... For me it really seems to be inflammation that somehow gets triggered and starts a bad pain cycle. Rest helps but it is really frustrating when every time you try and get more active it makes things worse. I'm sure the stress you are under is not helping matters. I know when I get in a bad flare-up too I always worry I won't go back to the way I was a month ago.... but they do seem to resolve, eventually. I have to keep reminding myself that when I get in this bad space. Have you tried ice instead of heat? For some people ice helps, others heat. I guess it depends whether or not there is inflammation there. Dee To: tetheredspinalcord From: lilacs007@... Date: Sat, 18 Aug 2012 13:54:51 -0700 Subject: how to minimize flare ups?! Guest guest
I did do ice a while ago but I may try again. It is so frustrating! All my knots are back, neuro pain like you wouldn't believe. I have a script for Xanax but not sure if that would help? ------------------------------ > >Flare-ups suck! I've been in one this month after doing so great for quite awhile. Guest guest
Well ice may not help with neuro pain and knots, helps more for inflammation. To: tetheredspinalcord From: lilacs007@... Guest guest
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who has these kind of " flare ups " and feels like they will not resolve themselves, but they always have so far. My flare ups have gotten more frequent and intense though, and I have found that when I am in that pain cycle and I can tell it just feels all inflamed, I get a script for prednisone for 5 days and that has seemed to do the trick when nothing else does. You can only take it like once every six months or so because it is a steroid, but it has worked for me. I also get some relief from heat, which really makes no sense, but again, it works for me! Hope you find some relief:) Lynn > > > > >Flare-ups suck! I've been in one this month after doing so great for quite awhile. Rest, ice, laser therapy are what seem to help me but also just time..... Guest guest
Thanks! My GP did put me on steroids but pain doc never mentioned it. Do you get weird weakness? I was bending down and my legs just started shaking. They get almost jelly like. I hope it gets better soon for all of us! ------------------------------ >I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who has these kind of " flare ups " and feels like they will not resolve themselves, but they always have so far. > >My flare ups have gotten more frequent and intense though, and I have found that when I am in that pain cycle and I can tell it just feels all inflamed, I get a script for prednisone for 5 days and that has seemed to do the trick when nothing else does. Guest guest
Lynn, Heat helps me a LOT. I love nothing more than to take a hot shower. It seems like the pain disappears while IN the shower. Too bad it doesn't usually last longer than that.
