Guest guest
: I know that a large part of Grayson County was to lose its EMS coverage this summer when Rural Metro planned to pull out. They covered a large part of the county, as well as a couple of the small towns, but couldn't get any reasonable compensation arrangement set up with the county for the unincorporated areas. Their town contracts just weren't enough to keep the operation solvent. If I understand what's going on correctly, R/M has extended its time a little and the county has brought in an " expert " to analyze the EMS needs of the area. To me, it seems a simple equation: EMS = crucial service. Ambulance billing = going broke. Therefore county needs to pony up subsidy. When are we going to wake up and make a move to get EMS listed as an essential service in Texas? Guest guest
, Sorry, I cannot recall the county but it seems to me it was around the area of san or Austin. I know this is probably of little, if any, help. Good luck! Alan Norris, NREMT-B Oak Cliff F.D. Guest guest
Are you talking about the service that was in Hill County? The service covering the southern part of the county went out of business in July of this year because of certain actions taken by the EMS Director. The name of the service was " Southern Hill County EMS, Inc. " based in Hubbard, Tx. The area is covered by other providers at this time, until the city comes up with their plan of action. My understanding is that the city is going to set something up on their own, rather than contract the service out, as was planned. Guest guest
Southern Hill County I have talked to the City of Hubbard and the County, and neither has come up with a plan to cover. They have other problems that they are currently trying to handle and EMS is on the back burner. The City Manager quit. They are trying to get some type of leadership set up before they will even look at EMS. My suggestion is, if you are interested in setting up a service in that area, contact the City office and get the information. Currently they have no guaranteed ambulance coverage and probably will not for some time. My service along with Hillsboro and Mexia have tried to help out. But, this is also stretching our services out. Tom Marek WEMS Supervisor
Guest guest
Unsure what is currently being done, but the city decide that they did not have the money to provide a service through the city of hubbard. They were willing to pay about 2000 a month from city/county if they could find someone to do it, but i told them it would be hard to find that. if you have any thing else, let me know. jeriami [texasems-L] County without EMS coverage > I read on this listserver recently (within past two months) that there was a > small county in Texas that was completely without EMS coverage.
