Guest guest
Shortage of emergency medical technicians One of Kentuckiana's largest ambulance services is looking to place non-certified emergency medical technicians on the city's streets. Yellow Ambulance says it doesn't have enough emergency medical technicians to answer all the calls. Recently, the company's executive director went before Kentucky's Board of Emergency Medical Services to ask for a special hiring waiver. Sherman Hockenbury says the non-certified employees would work alongside EMTs and only respond to non-medical emergencies. Sherman Hockenbury partially blames the state for the shortage. He says people sometimes wait months for their license after passing the state exam. The State Board of EMS says it will consider Yellow Ambulance's proposal later this month.
