Guest guest
Hi, I posted a while ago about seizures - we are having increases with enzymes, no-fenol and even HN zyme prime. Does anyone have experience with this or any insights? We're using lithium (1.2 mg) without success. My son is 3 and weighs 30 lbs. We are in touch with our DAN and neurologist, are currently awaiting the results of a CD 57 test. Thanks, Bethany
Guest guest
Hi Bethany, I don't have much knowledge about seizures. We have not done any EEG to see if our son has absence seizure, although he had episodes of uncontrollable laughters which can be suspected for seizure activities. I just want to provide some feedback about Houston enzymes, many of which contains stearic acid and magnesium stearate. These lubricates of the supplements suppress immunity system. HN-Zyme Prime even contains salicylates and artificial colors. What I understand is that for kids who have seizure disorder, any stress to the body has a chance to set it off. Salicylates are neurotoxic. Accumulated magnesium stearate and salicylates can damage the gastric mucosa. I would change to a clean brand of digestive enzymes. Guest guest
Bethany, Your post took me back many years. We tried so many enzymes as it was apparent from stools that food was going in and coming out looking much the same. My daughter could not tolerate anything w bromelain, papaya, yeasts, fermented anything, fungals etc. They all seemed to lower the seizure threshold for her as did no fenol. The only otc product we found that helped was a pork derived product. Finally she was put on a prescription product that was much stronger and also pork derived. Pancreatase, Creon, Ultrase are names for such. More comprehensive allergy testing when she was a young adult showed allergy to the items she could not tolerate. Pineapple, papaya, etc were all there as allergens. For her grapefruit was also an allergen so the off the wall behavior I saw when I tried GSE a couple of times was NOT die off but a neuro reaction to the grapefruit. Her allergies exhibit in the neuro system as 'nasty behavior' or seizures. i.e. pineapple gets her a 7-8 on an irritibility scale while gluten puts her at a 10, which for her is seizure. Doris Rapp's book 'Is This Your Child' was a great help in figuring this out. Here, the seizures come mainly as a delayed reaction-not right after eating but 8-12 hours later. Nasty behavior that is due to food intolerance will come more quickly, however. Is your child GFCFSF? - those are big offenders here and generate the time delayed seizures, enzymes or no enzymes. > > Hi, I posted a while ago about seizures - we are having increases with enzymes, no-fenol and even HN zyme prime. Guest guest
Limin, Have you try to give it to him with lemon juice and a bit of hymalayan salt? My son likes acidic foods and that is how I give it to him, as I know he wouldn't take it just like that. My younger son does not like the beef bone broth as he prefers chicken, but if I haven't got chicken I still make him take it with a bit of lemon juice to change it taste and he likes it like that. When my older boy was 5 and not a very good eater and not a good sitter either(he used to run around with the food in his )at meal time,a friend suggested to sit him between my husband and at every meal and not let him move until he had all/most of his food. we did this for 2 weeks and from them on he sat anywhere around the table without moving. We did similar things with the broth as he wasn't willing to drink it back them, my husband used to hold him and I used to put lukewarm spoonfull in his mouth and made him to drink it. This sounds drastic but learnt that if he wan't going to drink it by himself we would give it to him, now he loves the broth and drinks full bowls of it. This is how I cook the broth at home: Soak bones at least for 1 hour fill pot with water and cook bones until water is boiling, get rid of this dark water and rinse bones with clean water Fill pot again with water, add lemon juice and hymalayan salt and cook at slow heat at least for 8 hours, always adding water. At the end you will have a beautiful nice clean tasty broth that anyone would love to drink. I do the same with the chicken. Try to add the taste that your son likes to the broth and see if this work. Guest guest
Is he on anything for seizures? Magnesium and B6 are very popularly used for seizures in the autism arena. I am sure the formula varies, but I would Google about it if you haven't already. Here's a quick link. http://recent-health-research.com/seizure-suggestions/vitamin-b6-pyridoxine-and-\ magnesium-epilepsy-and-seizures/ Seizures went away at my house with digestive enzymes and removing gluten. They were the first symptom to go, but they were mild for us - not the full body ones. I think that often symptoms get worse before they get better, so it's difficult to tell if it's a healing crisis or a reaction to something in the enzymes. Have you tried other digestive enzymes? I have heard of higher doses with lithium aspartate or orotate than what you posted. See what your DAN says. Guest guest
Guar gum is also very helpful in healing the gut. It has reduced my need for supplemental stomach acid to almost nothing. Guest guest
Olga,Just to clarify, do you empty the water that you soaked the bones in? So, you are filling the pot three times with water? This is how I cook the broth at home: Soak bones at least for 1 hour fill pot with water and cook bones until water is boiling, get rid of this dark water and rinse bones with clean water Fill pot again with water, add lemon juice and hymalayan salt and cook at slow heat at least for 8 hours, always adding water. At the end you will have a beautiful nice clean tasty broth that anyone would love to drink. I do the same with the chicken. Try to add the taste that your son likes to the broth and see if this work. Olga
Guest guest
, Yes I do get rid of the water I soaked the bones in, as this way you get rid of some very dark blood and other things. The broth is much nicer and clear when is done this way. The bones I get normally have meat in them that why I cook them this way, but if you buy bones without any meat in them, perhaps you would like to soak them and then cook without getting rid of the water, but if you see that the water is too dark/black, you will be better off getting rid of that water, giving the bones a rinse and then do the final cooking . I heard some parents freeze the broth and give it to their kids as ice blocks when they are not able to make them drink it. Guest guest
Also wanted to add to the list of good suggestions. I don't know why sodium levels also have an affect with seizures, but I used to give my son an electrolyte drink - that I added to foods. It a nice balance of sod. Mag, & Pot. Its called E-lyte concentrate balance electrolytes - I bought it thru Emerson's online. The only thing you should not add it to, is any milk products. I add a capful when cooking veggies, and that way it gets in each day. Also you may want to google Vitamin B-6 dependent - there is a test the Neuro DR's can do to see if your child needs high doses of B-6 each day. The other supplement some find helpful is L- Carnitine. Lastly a good acupuncturist can show you how to stop a seizure. It can be done without needles, it does depend on what kind of seizures too. Because there are other areas of the body that may need a pressure point addressed. Guest guest
What other things are you doing? Maybe someone will be able to tell you more if you can list what else you're doing. If adding the enzymes is causing the difficulty, he could be allergic to something in houston enzymes. Maybe try another brand. Some say viruses can cause seizures. 2nd Request - Seizures and enzymes Hi, I posted a while ago about seizures - we are having increases with enzymes, no-fenol and even HN zyme prime. Guest guest
OlgaI freeze my very clear bone broth(I use only foot knuckle bones w the nerves, so the color is very clear from the beginning) in small unsalted portions and then use a portion in every meal that calls for water. I have done popsicles too, the flavor hides very well in mashed-frozen pineapple-cinammon puree.IsaEnviado desde mi oficina móvil BlackBerry® de TelcelSender: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Date: Fri, 11 Mar 2011 05:43:51 -0000To: <BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism >ReplyTo: BorreliaMultipleInfectionsAndAutism Subject: Re: 2nd Request - Seizures and enzymes ,Yes I do get rid of the water I soaked the bones in, as this way you get rid of some very dark blood and other things. The broth is much nicer and clear when is done this way.The bones I get normally have meat in them that why I cook them this way, but if you buy bones without any meat in them, perhaps you would like to soak them and then cook without getting rid of the water, but if you see that the water is too dark/black, you will be better off getting rid of that water, giving the bones a rinse and then do the final cooking .I heard some parents freeze the broth and give it to their kids as ice blocks when they are not able to make them drink it.Olga>> Olga,> > Just to clarify, do you empty the water that you soaked the bones in? Guest guest
, that is some great information. Thanks so much. We are GFCFSF, also doing elimination. But I haven't thought enough about allergies to fruit-derived ingredients in supplements. I will look into those products you mentioned, and also the book. His seizures are sometimes delayed, sometimes immediate, depending on how much food he has in his stomach. He is on zonisamide (anti-convulsant)right now, which turns into a phenol when it's broken down, which of course makes things worse. We're thinking of switching to Lamicatl. We tried going without meds for about a year, but he starts to have seizures every ten munutes, so until we get the gut/brain healing started...Bethany > > > > Hi, I posted a while ago about seizures - we are having increases with enzymes, no-fenol and even HN zyme prime. Guest guest
Heidi, he is on zonisamide for seizures, I forgot to mention that. We are doing B6 and Magnesium, and we just started high dose vitamin E. Guest guest
We have used several brands, and got results from all of them. I really don't know which works best, but I do know that for us, we also need to take digestive aids, like ginger root or turmeric to notice results. Oddly, even cod liver oil helped their digestion. So, it was like a mixture of things. We usually use Source Naturals Daily Essential Enzymes, and then use Now when I need to buy from my local health food store. I have used Kirkman's, but I can't remember why I didn't keep using them. I think it's because the pills would look odd and smell sometimes. I do think their products are good in general though, and I really appreciate that company. Love and prayers, Heidi N Heidi, he is on zonisamide for seizures, I forgot to mention that.
