Does anyone know the prevalence of Lyme disease in the United States? I know Autism is now, depending on the report you read, about 1 out of 100. I was interested if anyone knew what it is for Lyme disease? (1 out of ?)I am trying to make the point, to a naysayer, for my thesis that it can't be a simple coincidence that many children have both Lyme and Autism. If I had the prevalence rate for Lyme I could figure the random chance that a child with have both. Also, what have you seen as the % of kids with Autism who have came back positive for Lyme? I know that is a tricky one with all the inconsistencies for Lyme testing, but in published studies I have seen numbers around 20 - 25%. Numbers are probably higher, but for my thesis I will have to stick with published results in peer reviewed journals. Guest guest
The best place for statistics that are useable in school is the CDC. They state somewhere on their website that the reported numbers represent 6-12% of actual cases. It is buried somewhere in the site, I have found it at least a couple of times. I simply reference the CDC website for anything I get from the CDC. If you look at maps where number of cases for Lyme and Autism are tracked by state or county, you will see a correlation between number of Lyme cases and the rate of autism. I know there is a similar map for MS and Lyme. I think that person used Lyme disease in dogs, which is more likely to be reported than in humans. I also read a report about the risk of Autism correlating with the amount of rainfall in the area. That could be tied into the risk for Lyme disease, as ticks like more humid weather.
