My 8 year old has had recurrent strep throat for past several months. I took

him to an ENT who said his tonsils are huge and the strep is probably buried in

his tonsils so they need to come out. I would like to avoid surgery if

possible. He's done 3 courses/5 days (high dosage) of Zithromax which cures it

each time but it keeps coming back. It's definately affecting his brain because

when it flares he has major meltdowns, aggression and facial tics. Would a

longer, prophylactic dose of Zithromax cure the strep or would it only keep the

symptoms at bay until stopped? Would an immunologist be a good idea? Does

anyone have any other suggestions for treating strep? Thanks very much.
