Guest guest
I sometimes work with an employment agency to support Autistics and negotiate with employers. I don't charge because I have a well paid job myself. Examples are: A very bright man who loved his job in a plant nursery but was about to get the sack because he could not sort plant pots quickly. The solution was to colourcode the pots and shelves so he matched by colour rather than size. His encyclopedic knowledge of plants made up for social difficulties. He has also designed a website for his employer and is paid extra for maintaining this. A young girl who worked in a laundry was a good worker but was about to be sacked because she had terrible social skills, was very loud and told extremely rude jokes. The solution was to make a visual that would help her monitor voice volume. I bought her a joke book with jokes appropriate to the situation that she could learn. She also downloads jokes from the net and checks them with family before repeating at work. I helped her to work out some scripts for courtesy for arriving, leaving, asking for help and thanking. She also wears earplugs to help with stress due to noise and this was partly the reason why she spoke loudly. She is fine and is a meticulous worker. A young man was about to leave work. No reason given. Refused to discuss it. He agreed that I could shadow him for one day. I realized that he did not go to the toilet. He needed to know that he could take breaks and he needed to know where the toilets were. The manager was very upset to think that he had nearly lost a good worker for such a small thing and watches out for behaviour that might indicate a problem. Workplace bullying - it really helps to have an outsider to point this out as the victim is so often not believed. This is probably an issue that would be harder to help from a distance. In Australia it was possible to help the victim by bypassing the workplace union rep who was the ringleader and getting union support. Each workplace would be different in finding appropriate ways to support the worker. I am happy to advise both employees and employers because I am lucky to be employed at a level appropriate to my abilities. > > Greetings from Romania ! > > > > I wonder what good materials exist to help bosses etc. > > manage effectively Aspies with not too much frustration. > > http://www.specialisterne.dk/html/english/Home.html >
Guest guest
I have AS diagnosis. Communication is sometimes a problem but I have many effective scripts because my father was a teacher. lol I learned teaching way before i went to university. i used to worry about communication difficulties. Now i see that it is important that the people i work with see the problems and see me dealing with it. if i had a wheelchair, they would have to cope with seeing that around the place. it is no different. I don't have a manual. I can't follow them. I just watch people and really i am usually amazed that people cannot see what the problem is. In this situation, I have got to know the employment agency because they run a transition program between school and work, so I have to be involved with my clients for the last year of school. It seems to me that some things around disability are somewhat easier here. Maybe people are a bit more casual. Some things are harder because we have very few services. > > > > Greetings from Romania ! > > > > > > > > I wonder what good materials exist to help bosses etc. > > > > manage effectively Aspies with not too much frustration. > > > > > > http://www.specialisterne.dk/html/english/Home.html > > > > > >
