My rule around here is: buy NO SUBSTITUTES, except for rice milk, which is always mixed with chocolate syrup before serving. We don't buy soy cheese, or tofu ice cream, or make our own recipes for milk-free favorites. We just live as if dairy products don't exist. (except I eat goat cheese, but won't touch the stuff) I made the mistake of sending a soy pudding cup to school with him on Wednesday as an experiement. His backpack came home with the interior of it COVERED in chocolate soy guck. Where is his aide at that moment, I'd like to know!!! We've learned a litany, and I. " We don't eat cheese because cheese makes us sick! " So when he wants something in the grocery store and I check the ingredients and it has milk in it, I say, " We can't have it. It has the same stuff in it that makes cheese, and... " and replies, " cheese makes us sick! " We've been learning that one since his reply was, " cheese make ick. " (I don't say milk because we call rice dream milk) We bend the rule for chocolate. I don't think could live without chocolate. Once you've got these supplements under your belt, Grace, I'm sure you'll be able to try going milk-free if you still want to!
