Complaints of foul air at Buena Vista Elementary School started in September. A consultant last month found potentially dangerous levels of mold in three classrooms and recommended vacating the school. Additional studies found the mold came from a leaky roof and recommended moving students while the school is cleaned one section at a time, district spokesman Oby Lyles said. The level of mold in the school was less than that of the out- side air, Lyles said Wednesday. Though the district says the mold is not a health problem, officials have allowed a handful of students to temporarily attend other schools after their parents complained of allergic reactions, Lyles said. District officials will decide next week how to clean up the school, a process that could take as long as seven months. A few years ago, parents sued the Beaufort County School District after students complained of moldy air.
