Guest guest
Hello Deepta, the only time I have heard of "brushing therapy" was on this list. I looked into it and sent away for some information. It sounds as though it may have some benefit and I'm certain there are a couple of people on this list who have tried it. I do know that it has to be done under the strict supervision of either an Occupational or a Physiotherapist. You say in your message that it is the P.T. who has suggested this so she should have information for you on exactly what is involved. Many of the little ones I have worked with are extremely tactiley selective, particularly in the early years and particularly if the early year or two required much medical intervention and invasive procedures (ie. feeding tubes etc.). Persevere, one of the little gals I work with now would have fit the exact same description as your daughter at her age, and now at the age of 3 she will tolerate anything (except cotton balls), but does sign "wash" as soon as she is done the activity, but nothing wrong with that. Her mom is on this list and if she has time I hope she'll comment more. Don't force her, keep things fun, try to include various textures in activities she already likes. Talk to an occupational therapist, they often have terrific ideas. Its hard to be more specific without knowing her better! Whatever you do, don't give up! Hope I've been a little bit helpful best wishes catherine wareham deafblind consultant ontario, canada
