I look at them and think, they just have no idea what

my life is like...they may be sympathetic, they may

try to understand based on their own experiences, but

they TRULY don't have a clue what it is like

Someone should send this message to all the respite agencies.

EXACTLY! :)

Raena. No one has any idea what we go though. This list is a good list for

support of any kind.

Raena,

Sounds like every Christmas party, wedding and reunion

we've ever taken the kids to. What really gets me

going are the 'well-meaning' relatives and friends

who keep saying things like " just let him run, what

could happen? " and " Come on eat up, Yum Yum!! " .

Of course, any thing said about food will just make

refuse to eat anything, or worse, throw food on

the floor. Ug. This Christmas will be better, I

hope, we have cut down on the homes we will be

visiting and everyone has agreed to certain austism

rules beforehand. Tis the season, but I'm not feeling

very jolly.

I think about going to the church Christmas dinner,

and I can tell you what it will consist of. I will

walk the halls with while my husband oversees

our kids' trip through the buffet line---he'll have to

make sure doesn't put only desserts on her

plate. Then he will let me know when the line is done,

and I will quickly grab what will eat (stuff he

doesn't want will end up on the floor), then retire to

a quiet room with a lock on the door to feed him and

myself. Mark will check on us here and there, and

bring us extra goodies he thinks we need to try. When

has had enough dinner, I will try to keep him

busy while I eat what I can manage to swiftly stuff

into myself by allowing him to shred our napkins. Once

I finish and clean up all the paper, tossed food, and

spilled drinks, Mark will come and take away the trash

for us, and and I will resume our walks in the

hall. I will guide him to the door of the multipurpose

room so I can glance in here and there to watch a bit

of the festivities...eventually, when can go no

further, I will signal Mark, he will gather the three

older kids, and we will apologize on our way out the

door. Merry Christmas! <BR>
