wonderful....

Jen, I have wanted to get this done for so long it's not funny. But I see

it costs about $5,000 to have done for one eye I think and I doubt they

could help my vision. I have prism and astigmatism both. But when I pull

the edge of my eye the vision does get a lot better. I've worn glasses

since I was in the 4th grade and the idea of not having to wear them would

be a wonderful thing :) Nobody else ever needed glasses until they got to

the point like most people do, need them to read or drive with. My Dad, Mom

and 3 sisters never needed them, nor did my Grandparents on either side. I

know that I had an accident when I was a baby and had blood come out of my

eyes, I fell off the couch and hit my head and that could have damaged them

maybe but the doctors I've mentioned this to didn't seem to think it was

very important. I know that I have what they call tortuous vessels in my

eyes, that means the blood vessels are not straight but wiggly.

Here in Canada the surgery wasn't that expensive. Only $699 per eye. I

realize that is is Canadian dollars. I wonder why it costs so much there?

I actually had a neighbor who made appointments in Canada for her and her

husband to get this done because the cost was so much less! She loves it.

Where I'm located, near the St. MN area....they advertise it for

around$1200. - $1300. per eye. Been awhile since I've looked but that was about

I did have one doc tell me that if your near sighted ...like myself, I also have

astigmatism, that I still might need glasses for reading and close work. So I

just plod on with my contacts as they really don't cause me any trouble other

than the usual can't see when I take them off in the nite syndrome!!

Yeah, nowhere near $5000/eye. I know a few people who had it done and they love

it, but I love to read too much to take even the small risk of ending up with

blurry vision. Further, I enjoy mountaineering and hope someday to do some

really high-altitude stuff, and the scars left from the laser surgery can make

you (temporarily) blind at high altitudes. Not to mention that I now wear

bifocals, so I'd have to wear the glasses for reading, computer stuff, and so on

anyway. No much upside there, from my point of view. :-)

Oooh! Thank you for the feedback! I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! I can't

wait! I just can't imagine waking up and NOT having to squint at the

clock, not having to put in contacts (that are ALWAYS difficult on the

mornings I'm running late), not having to worry that they'll fall out in

the pool when I swim.

I love it! I really can't wait.
