Hi Mylie,

If your husband enjoys cooking, then I don't think

that there is anything wrong with him doing it. I am

sure that you both support each other in different

ways, whether they are traditionally gender assigned

or not. Especially if he is a picky eater, then maybe

he would just prefer to make the food? My mother

taught me a lot of 'the woman does this' rules that in

hindsight did not need to be true, she just thought

that they had to be because she was certain that

unless she covered up her true self, no man would want

her. I think that whatever division of household

tasks you have, that is fine, and that if you don't

want to, you don't need to cook for your husband.

I started cooking a little over a year ago mostly

because I was broke (so needed to eat at home) and had

little else to do in my life. Sure, I made mistakes,

but gradually I am getting better. Cooking, to me, is

one of those experiment and learn projects, so most

people make mistakes before they get the hang of it

completely. However, I think part of what helps me is

that I live by myself and I am cooking just for me, so

if I completely mess something up, I'm the only one

that knows. I get more nervous when I am cooking for

other people. I've also found watching cooking shows

really helped to understand what was being explained

in the cookbooks (you can get the old Child on

DVD now, and I liked Alton Brown and some others on

the Food Network). Maybe a cooking class would help

too, because then you could see how the processes are

done?
