Hi,

I have used the scopolomine patch with my patients in hospice. You can use one

patch behind the ear or if there is more saliva, you can also place one behind

each ear. It is a prescription drug. It does help, but the caregivers need to use

mouth swabs to keep the mouth from getting too dry.

daughter of Ralph,81 yrs. old with LBD.

Good morning Ann,

I know. The only time I ever suggest it, is for the families that are having a

difficult time with the last stage of dying. This patch seems to ease the

families' discomfort at witnessing their loved one during the last week or two

of life.

This is due to the increased fluid causing the 'gurgling'sound and the inability

to eat or drink. I wouldn't suggest using this patch for daily use on any of my

patients even if they didn't have LBD or any type of dementia.

Thanks for your reply. Many lay people might have gotten the wrong idea that it

would be a good medication for everyday use. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Most Sincerely,

,

Thank you for your note - I see to have answered to you only,

which was not my intention, so I'll send something to the list.

I'm using a new mail client and haven't quite got the hang of

choosing an outgoing persona etc.

Best regards,

Ann

Scopolomine is hallucinogenic even in some healthy young people. A friend

used it to combat sea sickness and was relieved of watch and confined below

after he was found arguing with a witch sitting on the end of the boom.

Perhaps

not a drug of choice for LBD patients until the end...

Best regards,

Ann

Hi Teri,

I have never gone to a meeting. Everything I have learned has been from reading

research articles,on the job training and most of all-reading the comments from

the caregivers of this group.

If there is someone who has great writing skills, these questions and answers

should be written in a book for all to purchase on a website or bookstore.

Before my Dad was diagnosed with LBD, I had never heard of it. I've got a BSN

and have worked several different types of nursing jobs during my 27 years of

nursing, but have never heard of this disease until his diagnosis. It's much more

common than we believe.

Since most of my patients live in the nursing home, I catch myself watching all

the dementia patients and sorting the Lewy Body from the Alzheimer's patients.

Of course this is just an observation and I don't talk to others about this.

It's just interesting to see how many people seem to have this disease and how

it is so different from Alzheimers.

Sorry for the long response, just got carried away.LOL

Most Sincerely,
