My brothers are more in the 140 > range- *Not Fair!* The standard AC type IQ profile is one of peaks and troughs of ability and less than average ability, as a rule. This means that the average score from the entire test is often essentially meaningless. Sometimes they will give you three scores: performance avergae, verbal average and overall average. On this my performance average is 91, verbal is about 116 and overall average is about 103. (This was on the WAIS) This is clinically significant because there is a large gap of over 20 points between my verbal and performance skills. I don't know the gap between my highest and lowest section skills, but I was told parts of my verbal are almost off the charts at the high end. This means that I am deceptively articulate, covering up many areas that I don't really understand. It makes it nearly impossible to get appropriate support, and has led me to be bullied on occasion by people who couldn't believe I should be on disability benefits. On online IQ tests I usually score about 130 - 135, because they focus on my areas of ability. Dawson reccomends ACs should be tested on a different scale called the Raven test, which she believes shows AC skills better. Has anyone here taken that test? Guest guest
Ana, We should have a new category for people like us- who are as intelligent as we are AS. What should we call it:? There would not be many typical people like this, since it is pretty atypcal to have an IQ below 20, for example. Whereas on most online IQ tests I score around 130-150, I scored 80 on the Raven's. Dawson's view of autistic intelligence really bugs me. She acts all autistics have the spatial>verbal profile, even when her studies in some cases had subgroups of autistics without that profile. If you get to define autistics as having spatial talents, then obviously those will be universal among autistics *as you define them*, but it doesn't really tell you much. Guest guest
The Raven test is copyrighted, and can be administered only by professionals. It is very expensive. There is a free version of a " Raven-like " test at www.egopont.com. I didn't do as well on that test as I normally do on IQ tests. I've seen research to the effect that the Raven test is gender biased, that is, women tend not to do as well as men; this test is probably biased the same way. Also, the test is biased against people with poor vision, poor visual memory, and strong non-visual learning styles (such as auditory or kinesthetic.) My brother had a terrible time on that test because his eyes are bad. PASS IT ON! Visit http://www.thehungersite.com to give food to the hungry with just a click -- every day and at no cost to you. I scored 17 out of 18 indicating an IQ of 130, apparently, much the same as I do in other public sphere IQ tests. It does only test one area though, that I can see, so I don't see how it can help with an overall picture of someone's intelligence and ability. Guest guest
So true! I've looked at lots of online IQ tests, for the purpose of my master's project. (I am getting college students interested in Sudoku and seeing if it improves their mathematical problem solving ability.) For one of the measures of this test, I needed a readily accessible test of non-verbal intelligence (which I think Sudoku may improve) and which does not require registration or an email address. As you said, most do. In fact, there is one very interesting test that I found, a mixed-mode test of several forms of verbal and nonverbal intelligence. It required an email address, so I gave it an address which I do not use for correspondence, only for purposes like this. I worked through it; then, at the end, when I was very eager to find out my results, I had to go through at least 10 pages of " offers, " carefully rejecting them all! Finally I got to the last page and got a message to the effect that I must accept at least one " offer. " I closed that window, resigned to never knowing my score on that test. Then, to my surprise, when I checked my email, there was my score on that test - 151! However, this test would not have been suitable for my volunteers, because it included tests of verbal intelligence (irrelevant to what I want to measure, regarding the cognitive benefits of practicing Sudoku) and because of all the " offers " that one has to slog through to get the results. I found the Egopont test through this search. The author of that test is currently working on validating it, so it is being offered " for entertainment purposes only " via the website that I cited earlier, www.egopont.com. As near as I recall, it does not ask for a registration or an email address, and it gives the results at the end. I had to get permission from the author to use it for my master's project, and keep a copy of this permission with the project documentation. As I said, that test is probably biased; and I had to warn my volunteers about this, and give them the option to decline (no one did.) Still, it's a very interesting test of non-verbal intelligence, and it seems to have reasonable face value reliability and validity. Moreover, it's not entirely culture-free as the opening page suggests. It relies on the cultural convention of reading left to right and top to down. People in non-literature cultures, or cultures that read in other ways, might not figure this out. - Joni Re: Quick warning: any website that requires you to register inclduing an email address for an IQ test or to get your results is gonna spam you and find various other ways to try to extract money from you. Online IQ tests can be fun, especially if you usually score on the high side, but look out for catches, if you decide to search for more or click advertising links. Guest guest
I just scored 105 on the Raven IQ test, while on other tests I usually score from 129- 145 depending on the test. I wonder how most people score on the Raven compared to the more standard tests - is it really any kind of AC/NT divide or do most people have very different scores on each. It would be interesting to know. How did you get the chance to take the Raven test? Ruth -- " Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.
