Guest guest
If you ever encounter your mother or is it mother-in-law not recognizing you or her shoes, it often helps to walk out of the room and re-enter and then they usually recognize you. You don't have to stay out long, just go out and re-enter. Say, " Hi mom! "  Same with shoes, take them out and then bring them back and tell her, " here are your shoes " and usually that works. One person on this site described that her mom did not know her when she walked into the bedroom where her mom was in bed, so she walked to the other side of the bed and said, " Hi mom! " And her mom said, " I was looking for you. " In the case you describe, of course you can not remove the bedroom or house, but if you go out and arrive home and she does not recognize home. Drive down the street and back and she will probably recognize it is her house. The delusion can usually be broken by removing the object not recognized and then reappear. ________________________________ To: LBDcaregivers Sent: Wed, January 12, 2011 9:44:58 AM Subject: What is the name of this thing happening?  I read a post here recently about a thing that happens sometimes and I can't recall what the name is - but I can describe it: Person with lbd quite suddenly does not know where they are and when they are told they are in their bedroom, in their living room - some place very familiar - they cannot make a connection to the place? " It looks like my bedroom but I'm not sure. " " It looks like my bed " " They look like my shoes " " the pictures look like mine but. " This happened the first time she woke up after a " nightmare " that she couldn't get home and was calling for someone to help find her. As she woke up from the " bad dream " she did not have that connection to being home and it took a few hours before she felt comfortable enough that she was really home and in her room with her things and family and could go back to sleep. I am not sure if it was a bad dream or a hallucination but in any case the result was she was not sure she was really in her room in her home with her belongings surrounding her or even that the pictures on the wall were of her and family. Similar has happened when she is left alone short times - often while sitting on the commode (she is not left alone very much at all, she does not like it). This has a name but I can't recall what it is. I'd like to know so I can look up more information about it. Thank you Dorothy
