Guest guest
tony, I wouldn't leave the group to soon.. I would question if this MD knows what he is talking about. My Mom had the Alzheimers diagnosis too. I had to find out for myself she didn't. Is she falling at all? I didn't even know Mom was falling except for once, but it appears she had lots of falls. On one occasion she said to me, " I know how to fall. " and she did. She meant so she wouldn't get hurt. That really surprised me. There are many who don't even know what LBD is and the thing that makes me wonder is the B 12 shot. That is an old remedy that is real questionably. It doesn't hurt anything. And you can try Aricept. My Mom couldn't even tolerate that. The med intolerance is another indicator of LBD. If you go into our files in the recent Welcome email sent out, I think she has a whole section on LBD and how it can be found. I will see if I can find my saved articles that might throw some light on it for you I found a Neurologist just like that and he nearly destroyed Mom with meds. Just my opinion. Who indicated it was LBD? Hugs, Donna R Cared for Mom 3 years in my home and the last year at a nh. She passed away from LBD in 2002. LBD vs Alzheimers Hello all, A month or so ago my mother's Neuro Psych leaned towards LBD but would not commit until the neurologist examined her. This week the neurologist appt. came and went and he thinks it's the onset of Alzheimers. He's recommended a B12 regimine and Aracep (or something like that). I'm a little confused as to the two different diagnosis. He felt an MRI was not needed at this time and his Alzheimer diagnosis was determined by certain test etc. I was not present since I live in Texas and mom is in Tucson. Any comments are welcomed. It looks like I might have to head to another group for alzheimers. Please respond. Thank you.
Guest guest
Tony - It would probably be useful to go to lbda.org, click on " Learn about LBD " and then on " Is it LBD or something else? " There you will find information to help you and your brothers as you compare your mom's symptoms to those outlined in the article. Misdiagnosis is common with LBD because some of the symtoms of LBD are like Alzheimer's and others are like Parkinson's. My mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's three years before her LBD diagnosis. I was doing some reading on my own and ran across information about LBD. The more I read, the more convinced I was that was what we were dealing with. A new neurologist confirmed my suspicions. Does your mom have fluctuating congition & alertness, problems with motor skills, sleep disturbances, hallucinations, medication sensitivity? As you will see in the above mentioned article, those symptoms point to LBD. Good luck and keep asking questions. You and your brothers are your mom's best advocates. Warmly, Katy
Guest guest
Mom is not falling and does not have a gait or muscle rigidity. She does have memory loss, confusion, hallucinations that she believes are real and the neuro psych leaned towards LBD. I don't know of any med intolerance as of yet. Thanks ________________________________ To: LBDcaregivers Sent: Thu, February 10, 2011 10:33:31 AM Subject: Re: LBD vs Alzheimers  tony, I wouldn't leave the group to soon..
