Guest guest
As I reported when I joined, I took the Wired mag version of the Autism Quotient and got a 36 the first time. I then went back and took it again a few times. (Is that an autistic thing to do, to keep taking one test over and over and comparing little cariations in scores?) One time I did it putting in what I thought " normal " people would write, except for the ones about which I just could not outright LIE. I got a 21 one time but mostly 31,33,36 (high scores for autism according to their scoring system). So, out of curiosity, my husband took it. He got a 9. Ha! I guess it helps to have an NT around to help me remember stuff... Then I took another, the " Aspie test " which someone made up based on other tests (I can look it up if anyone is curious and post the URL but I don't have it now...) The way that was scored, I got " You are more Aspie than Neurotypical. " To get to the verbal portion of that test I had to wade my way through those darn dot puzzles... and the result of that was I was told I had discalculia. I was pretty sure that that meant " can't add 2 + 2 very well " which I already know. But it was interesting to find that having a math learning disability has other features, such as not being able to remember names or put them with faces. I SUCK at names. I had a choir once with about ten people and it took me months to remember all the names. Church directories help a lot... I always thought that " not being able to do math " was because I had a bad attitude or was lazy or had " math anxiety. " But the list of other symptoms is so ME. No one diagnosed me with anything other than " doesn't pay attention " in the 1970s when I was in school. Don't you need to know math to do computer science, or engineering or any of that? All the aspie/autism sites I read say that engineering and math and computers are favorite careers. It kind of explains why I am kind of like a math geek in personality but I'm a " math geek who can't do math " or something equally silly. Re: this list. I'll be gone for awhile, have a HUGE deadline at work. I've just been lurking a bit. Rhonda
