We created this committee when Lily, age three, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in late July. HERE'S WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP In all 50 states there are laws on the books that say PARENTS DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to make medical decisions for their children. If a doctor believes his/her treatment protocol is what's best for the child, this doctor has the legal right to report parents for medical neglect should they question his medical authority and state welfare agencies have the power to take custody of not only the ill child but all the other children in the home as well. When and Rott, Lily's mom and dad, were told by the hospital pediatric oncologist in Tulsa that Lily had leukemia and that Lily would be subjected to a series of possibly deadly chemical treatments that could last two to five years, they expressed interest in exploring less toxic means. The doctor, apparently not used to dealing well-informed parents who not only were well known by practitioners in all branches of the healing arts community and who knew the real dangers of the treatment protocol being presented, used her authority and immediately threatened the Rotts by telling them that if they did not obey her orders 100%, they would lose custody of Lily and the state would dictate all medical treatment until she was 18 years old. Undaunted by this threat and by the tirade of accusations which followed about how unfit they were as parents for not accepting her medical opinion on the spot, the Rotts put together a team of medical experts which includes an MD, several osteopaths, a chiropractor, several naturopaths and others, all of whom have participated in one way or another since then to make sure Lily got the best care available in Oklahoma. The Rotts reluctantly allowed Lily to receive the first chemotherapy treatment which she seemed to tolerate reasonably well, in part, because they asked the hospital permission to bring in special diets and other support services provided to them by the medical advisory team they had assembled. However, about the time Lily was to go back to the hospital for a checkup, she woke up one morning totally unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital in shock. She ended up in pediatric intensive care for a week and regular intensive care for a second week. During this time Lily was in such pain, she begged that no one touch her, she suffered nausea, sores on her mouth as well as other toxic symptoms and, most notably, Lily lost partial use of one arm and one leg from neurological damage. She was gravely ill. This crisis prompted the Rotts to beg the hospital to let them take Lily to Switzerland where she could have a full array of treatment options, not just the same chemotherapy that had just almost killed her and which hospital authorities wanted to continue. The hospital finally agreed to let them go so the Rotts got their financial affairs in order, hastily closed up their newly-rented house, arranged passports for their six children and themselves, and headed for the Dallas Airport having arranged special deep discount fares to fly to Switzerland. They were scheduled to leave September 12. However, due to the World Trade Center bombing, all planes to Europe were grounded for many days so the Rotts stayed in Dallas with friends until they could fly out. Meanwhile, hospital officials where Lily had been treated in Tulsa, for reasons yet to be fully clarified, decided to report the Rotts for medical neglect which then prompted child welfare officials to file a petition to have Lily taken into immediate custody. A sheriff and four squad cars showed up at Lily's grandparents' house to pick up Lily. Not finding Lily (as she was already en route to Switzerland by this time) child welfare authorities filed a second set of papers in juvenile court now claiming interest in the welfare of the Rotts' other four under-aged children. Interest in these other children, according to the papers filed at the courthouse, was based on 's gun collection and a supply of ammunition found in their closed up house. (Gun ownership is a common practice in Oklahoma and is perfectly legal). In addition, according to this same court paperwork, the Rotts have been officially accused of being " survivalists " , whatever that is supposed to mean. was an executive with a national communications company until he was forced to resign in order to go to Switzerland. is active in the community and is known and respected for her citizen lobbyist work at the legislature regarding various health freedom and parental rights issues. The central legal argument now going on is HOW to treat Lily and who gets to decide. In Switzerland, cancer experts disagree with American protocols in two significant ways. First, they do not believe that a patient should automatically get several years of chemotherapy once the patient is free of cancer. Lily was free of cancer when she arrived in Switzerland. Second, once a patient has not shown a return of the cancer for several months, Swiss cancer doctors consider the patient cured. Conversely, American doctors view ongoing chemotherapy as a " preventative " measure to prevent the cancer from returning and they never use the word " cured " . If Lily is declared cured by Swiss doctors, her Tulsa doctors still want to continue chemotherapy once she gets back. Also important to keep in mind, under Swiss law, PARENTS HAVE TOTAL AUTHORITY to make all medical decisions about their children's welfare. There are no compulsory childhood immunization laws and no parent would ever be condemned for rejecting toxic chemical treatments for cancer or anything else. Instead, it is the belief of Swiss doctors that a parent must be completely comfortable with the treatment ultimately chosen, as the child will do much better with whatever protocol is used if he or she senses " Mom " thinks this is OK. In addition, Switzerland has always been a haven for both allopathic and natural healing arts of all kinds. The ability to select from all medical modalities is officially part of the Swiss medical system and it is common practice to select from all modalities during the course of treatment. After discussions with Swiss doctors regarding Lily's health situation upon arrival in Switzerland, the Rotts decided to take Lily to a cancer clinic that specialized in non-toxic treatments where she could be treated with Iscador, a non-toxic drug made from mistletoe. Iscador has been used in Switzerland since 1917 for cancer and it was recommended to Lily to support her immune system. Iscador is also used to help repair the damage caused by radiation and chemotherapy among other things. It also happens to be the leading prescribed cancer medication in Germany and a key component in conventional cancer therapy in many other countries in Europe. Iscador is not used in America. WE NEED YOUR HELP. The Rotts have spent $14,000 to date on natural healing arts treatment for Lily to correct the damage done to her by the chemotherapy. Hospital bills from Tulsa are now rolling in and many are in the thousands of dollars not covered by their health insurance. Medical bills are now also piling up in Switzerland which their health insurance company refuses to pay. The Rotts have also started to pile up several thousand dollars worth of legal bills to deal with the ongoing legal mess in Oklahoma as the child welfare authorities have told the Rotts by phone in recent days they intend to use the courts to gain legal custody of Lily AND all four of their other under-age children in absentia. HOW YOU CAN HELP 1. Please send this e-mail to everyone you know. 2. Please send money to the fund that has been set up: Please mail your check or money order to: Tuttle Church of Christ Attn: Rott Family Fund PO Box 426 Tuttle, Oklahoma 73089 *Please make a special note on the memo portion of the payment that the amount is to be used for the Rott Family fund.* If you would like to confirm the facts in this case please call (405) 381-4409 or email maddogs@... . 3. Please contact Governor Keating and ask him to use his authority as the highest ranking public official in Oklahoma to launch an investigation into the actions of the Tulsa hospital in which Lily Rott was treated as well as the actions of the Department of Human Services (child welfare) against her parents. Gov. Keating Office of the Governor Room 212 State Capitol Oklahoma City, OK 73105 governor@... 4. Please ask Mr. Hendrick, Director of DHS (child welfare) to look into the actions of his employees in this matter particularly so that he can find out how the legal ownership of a gun collection and ammunition can be construed by DHS workers as being a " survivalist " as well as justification for taking children into state custody in what is nothing more than a medical dispute over how to treat one of the children. Please ask him to have someone define what a " survivalist " is. Hendrick, Director Oklahoma Department of Human Services 2400 N. Lincoln Blvd., P.O. Box 25352, Oklahoma City, OK 73125 .Hendrick@... 5. If you are an Oklahoma resident, please contact your Oklahoma House Member and your Oklahoma Senator to ask that they urge a full investigation into this matter. Please tell them that if the Rotts are being treated this way, there must be other parents who are being railroaded into allowing toxic medical treatments for their children that they don't want and they are being denied the right to select less toxic modalities. Please be sure to mention that in Switzerland PARENTS HAVE THE LEGAL RIGHT TO DECIDE which medical treatments they want for their children NOT THE DOCTORS and all manner of natural therapies are officially part of the Swiss medical system! http://www.lsb.state.ok.us/
