Guest guest
My sister and mother and they hired a CNA to get him from the car into the house. I can't imagine it working because even with a walker he stiffens and leans backwards and his legs and feet cross eachother and his core is so weak he cannot get from a sitting position to a standing position at all - but I can only hope and pray he can make it up the 2 steps into the house. I am very nervous. Hi , I am wondering why your dad is still with a walker when you mention all the balancing problems he has. I would let my husband use a walker around the house if he chose to, so he could get some exercise, but I had to be beside him all the way, because of his balancing issues. When I transported him anywhere I had a Transport Chair and I even used it in the house to get him quickly to a toilet when he needed to go. Here is a transport chair: http://www.activelivingnow.com/Transport_Wheelchairs_s/81.htm?gclid=CJuw6I2Z96kC\ FYUaQgodh2ZWXw They are very light and can be folded and put in a car and they fit through a normal size room door like a bedroom or bathroom in a home. It was so light I could lift it and put it on the floor of the back seat of my car. My husband just needed the help to get in and out of the car, but he could help himself lift a little by holding onto the door frame of the car and helping to pull himself up out of the wheelchair. I had to again help him out of the car into the chair, but it is so much more safer to have them in a chair to get them around when they reach the point of having very little balance. I first rented a portable ramp at a medical store near my house, so I could get my husband up and over a few steps to the house and then I ended up buying the ramp and I could get him easily into the house over the threshold door step and 3 other steps to the house. I could also use the ramp anywhere with steps that I brought my husband to get him into a house if we were visiting. Here is a portable ramp similar to what I had: http://www.discountramps.com/single_fold_wheelchair_ramps.htm?CAWELAID=298240689\ & ctype=2 & gclid=CMazkfOd96kCFQYLbAodjDgDaA Your family should at least consider these things for your dad's well-being. They can still let him get around in the house with assistance, but in the outside getting around they should look into a transport chair. It makes life easier on everyone. The CNA can massage your dad's legs too, to help prevent blood clots from sitting in a chair, it helps to keep the blood flowing. So once he is in the house he has 24 hr supervision, between family and hired helpers. He wanted to come home so badly - I just am so worried. My sister said not to come till Monday - and only if I get over this cold. I was supposed to have surgery Friday and the doctors postponed it and said it is not safe when you have a cold. Now I am waiting it out, it has been 2 weeks. I am so worried there will be yet another 911 call with about one week. Home is best, but when is it just not feasible?
