Guest guest
My mother's hallucinations were minimized GREATLY by the right combinations of meds, all at very low doses, and prescribed by a lewy-savvy doctor (Most doctors are not, and in their ignorance can do more harm than good when it comes to medications.) As you know, hallucinations are a hallmark of LBD; my mother doesn't yet have parkonsonism, but 20% of lewy-sufferers don't have that symptom. My best to you and to your family... > My name is Maggie and my mother (strong signs when she turned 65 yrs. old) was diagnosed with either LBD or AD. Her symptoms are much closer to LBD in my opinion. She does not shuffle, but I've noticed a tremor in her left hand. The past four months she has had terrorizing hallucinations about people trying to kill her and she rarely sleeps. I'm frustrated because we are an Army family and I can't be with her and help my sisters take care of her. When I went to visit for a week her hallucinations were worse. Has anyone experienced such hallucinations with their loved ones and have you found a way to help? > -- His, Sherry daughter/guardian of , dx 4/09 with LBD, living in a nearby NH
Guest guest
Hi, Maggie. Yes, my mother experienced similar hallucinations beginning about five months after her diagnosis. Aricept was started but that made the hallucinations and nightmares worse. Seroquel was then started; immediately, the hallucinations that had so frightened her that she, too, was afraid to sleep were gone...replaced by pleasant hallucinations that exist still. Mom is now 5 1/2 years after diagnosis and hallucinates almost constantly now. Still, she sees children or loved ones who have past so they do not frighten her. I believe they are actually a source of comfort for her. The only caution Mom's neurologist offered prior to the Seroquel is that there is a slight risk of stroke with it. She also would not exceed a dose of 25 mg a day, titrated up to that level. I made the decision to try it because I felt Mom could not survive with the terrible things she was seeing. Best wishes to you and your family, Lynn in Florida P.S. Thank you for your service. My thoughts and prayers are with all of our military personnel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > My name is Maggie and my mother (strong signs when she turned 65 yrs. old) was diagnosed with either LBD or AD. Guest guest
Hello Lynn, My mother was also give Aricept at the beginning and it lead to stronger and maniac halluncinations. We stopped immediately and the doc at the ER gave her Haldol (sp). She slept for two days. The neurologist can rarely call my sisters back in a timely manner and it takes about three months to get an appt. It's very frustrating for me to be this far away and not be able to help. Thank you for sharing your experience. It's greatly appreciated. > > > > My name is Maggie and my mother (strong signs when she turned 65 yrs. old) was diagnosed with either LBD or AD.
