Guest guest
Sometimes I feel like I am going know where fast. I have to look at the big picture to get some perspective. It's been almost a year and I've lost forty pounds. I tried on a pair of size 16 Levi's last night and they more than fit!!!! I've been pulling out winter clothes and last winter years are defiantly to big. I have now lost more weight than I need to lose (YEA). It hasn't been really fast but it has happened. Terry's torturing made all the difference for me. Once I ditched the nuts and the legal desserts I started losing again. LIsa > Kim, > Isn't this the greatest! Guest guest
Pat 0 Hi! Our stats are very similar I noticed. I am also struggling to get below 130 (haven't been there in years). If anything works for you let me know. I've had a little success with drinking 3 quarts of water daily and making a few changes, but not as much as I hoped. from NY 146/133/
Guest guest
Hi Pat, Welcome to this list, it is the best. As far as your not losing any more weight, it is probably mainly because you are so close to goal. That last 10 can be the most stubborn of things. Of course, in my case, it is my own fault so that may not be the issue with you. The one thing I thought of was that you said the turtle menues provided a lot more carbs than you have been eating lately. How much non-carb food have you been eating? It could be that you have put your body into starvation mode and your metabolism is shut down to cling to that weight. The other thing is that maybe you have kept your carbs so low that when you stopped losing you couldn't really reduce the carbs further. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
, I know when I had my last rectal surgery and my stitches broke open I blamed myself even though I was doing everything humanly possible to advoid hard stools, yet I still had one and broke open my repair work. All I want to say is please don't blame yourself for your set back. It's not your fault, there are just some things that are out of a persons control. I am keeping you in my prayers that you continue to heal and feel good soon. Love & Hugs, Pam
Guest guest
Hi Pam, Thanks for your kind words. It's just that so much time, money, emotion and so much more has been invested in this surgery that I'd hate to see it being a failiure. What did you have the surgery for? Fissures? As if I didn't have enough, I had a couple of fissures starting on January. I had constant rectal pain but after the fissure healed the doctor who saw me didn't see anything. I was referred to the rectal specialist but I didn't have the chance to go before the surgery. After my vulvar surgery I had a horrible rectal pain, I think my rectum was hurting more than my vagina, I never knew why. But I had to be so careful with not being constipated and maybe because of the baths, my rectal pain got much better. Well, maybe if I don't get cured of the vv, at least my rectal pain got better. How painful and difficult is the rectal surgery?
Guest guest
, Just want you to know that I know exactly what you mean about how you are feeling, been there myself all to often. Just remember that you are doing everything you can to get well. It isnt your fault that recovery has been difficult. Have you had a chance to talk to a doctor about the bleeding? I am sure you can continue to take the baths. They may actually help keep the area clean during your period. My doctor has women go on the pill continuously for a few months during recovery to avoid periods. I would ask your doctor about pads, but I think you would be fine as long as you change the pads frequently. You can get all natural wood pulp (seventh generation) pads, or cotton washable pads (glad rags), at a co op, or health food store. You can also order online from both of those companies. Meanwhile, take it easy and have someone else do the grocery shopping for you if at all possible. Bunny /| |\ . . Guest guest
Glad to hear that Pat is improving. Have you discussed the what ifs with the docs? I suppose they will want to wait until the radiation has been done before they change horses. Hope the RT turns it round Best wishes Update Hello All, Said I would do an update when I got my PSA’s, so here it is: Dx Xmas 1999, PSA 220, Gleason 7-8, T4M1b PSA nadir 0.3. Failed Zoladex (2005) then Casodex (2007). On DES (oestrogen) for 3 months to date. RT to breast buds. Prostate tumour invasion of bladder, awaiting palliative RT. Clinical Trials suggested. I’m in UK. Dates shown with month word ‘cos you folks across the pond put the month first (like you drive on the right and I never worked out why!) Recent PSA’s, all 2007, still on Zoladex: 30 Jan, 6.7 27 Mar, 9.6 10 Jul, 13.4 Stop Casodex 20 Sep, 30.1 Start DES (oestrogen) 13 Dec, 22 OK, except that the September reading is anomalous, the onco (junior guy, not the honcho) did a DRE then took a PSA!!! Apart from that, the readings are close to a straight line on a log plot. Which, taken without the 30.1, would indicate the DES is not working… However if I assume the DRE had a small effect, and the sudden jump is real, then the DES is working! Whatever, the cancer is still up to its tricks with the original tumour invading the bladder, and we are going to do 10 sessions of RT on the prostate. I will get more info at the CT scan; I think there is rectal involvement. My wife Pat is getting better very gradually from her pneumonia and pleural infusion. She’s had a bad time; I am so happy for her. Happy Christmas,
Guest guest
That’s right. We are trying to avoid going to chemo until QOL on that treatment is better than QOL without it. There is no sign of any bone met activity yet. The oncologist said that palliative RT to the prostate is the best option at the moment, along with the DES. I have had a response from a list member saying that DES is bad for bone. My understanding is that oestrogenic treatment is good for bone density. There is evidence that DES causes bone marrow effects in mice. Can anyone clarify this? It appears that DES is benign regarding bone effects. See, Scherr D, et al., " Diethylstilbesterol revisited: androgen deprivation, osteoporosis and prostate cancer. " J Urol. 2002 Feb;167(2 Pt 1):535-8. Department of Urology, The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, New York, New York, USA. CONCLUSIONS: Rapid bone turnover and resorption can be prevented with 1 mg. diethylstilbesterol alone or in conjunction with other modes of androgen deprivation. Therefore, diethylstilbesterol should be considered as monotherpy in men who require long-term antiandrogen therapy.
