Guest guest
Hi I have the same issue with my dad. I use a plastic tupperware container filled with water. It's the rectangular, lasagna pan type. I bring that to the table where my dad is sitting and cover him with a vinyl apron and then put a towel in his lap. I proceed to brush his teeth the best I can and hold a cup under his mouth to spit in. I use the tupperware as rinse water. Sometimes it's not pretty and he spits where he shouldn't and the floor gets an extra washing. Good luck, it can be difficult at times but I always remember I would want someone to help me with my teeth, so I always try to do what I can for him. I can't get her to the sink anymore and I've tried to just use a cup with her sitting up in a chair, but that doesn't work well either. > > Thanks > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
If you are still using toothpaste, I would find one that doesn't have a sudsing agent (sodium laurel sulfate) nor floride. That way, you have less foam to deal with and you don't have to worry about them swallowing the floride (it can be toxic in large quantities). We use " Squiggle " in our home. It's got a pleasant taste, doesn't foam much and even small children can use it. Down side...it must be ordered, not available in stores. Also, in late stages, many people resort to just using a gauze pad or small washcloth to remove grime from teeth. > > > > > > Any suggestions on how to brush my sister's teeth? Guest guest
, I use an electric tooth brush for Kathy with a very small amount of toothpaste. She has difficulty spitting. Our dentist indicated that swallowing a small amount would not be a problem. At first she was uncomfortable with the buzzing sound but soon adapted and it was easier on us both. Just our experience.  Jeff ________________________________ To: lbdcaregivers Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2011 10:14 AM Subject: Brushing teeth  Any suggestions on how to brush my sister's teeth?
