For the last 6 years of his life he complained that his glasses didn't correct his vision anymore and he needed a new perscription. Always the result of testing was that there was no diabetic disease evident and his script was the proper one. After he got the dx of LBD, and through talking with others, I found that it is common for the disease to affect the parts of the brain that decode what the person sees. Eventually he could see, but didn't always understand what he was seeing. Hope that helps. And it is common. Guest guest
sorry Judy to hear of the trouble you are having with your mom's LBD- seems like it always has a curve ball or two to throw. i went downdown to get my daughter settled in her apt. for grad school, and i left my wife Kay( LBD) with caregiver. she called me on my cell to tell me kay decided to just sit down in the shower naked and said she won't/can't get up. caregiver (100 lbs) has to call fire dept. to get kay (180 lbs) up off the floor. she wasn't hurt, thank God, but now i will have to get EMT to bill my insurance- always fun. in the mean time, i fall off the ladder in garage ( missed that last darn step)- and will go to get x-ray on sun. at urgent care, at the bequest of my caregiver, who says i act too much like a man? i would laugh out loud if my hip would stop hurting. anyway- take care of YOU, all you caregivers out there................... > In my husband's case, his hearing seemed to get more acute, but his vision dereriorated greatly. Guest guest
Hey Omg - i am lol for you gary It is such an honor to hear from you - I say that because I have been standing on the sidelines with your posts often feeling so bereft at your circumstance with Kay that I am afraid that anything I say will sound trite or meaningless - I think we all expect on some level that if nature takes a natural course our parents will need our help to care for them as they age - kind of an obligation we are born into as they have brought is into the world and given us life Of course, when we marry and vow to love honor and obey for better or worse the same feeling is there - not knowing what is going to happen in the future - which spouse may need care first - how much care - and will we be able to provide for them When I first read your story about your wife Kay - so young and already so deep into lewy body my heart broke for you - since although we take those wedding vows - it is quite the shock when in the prime of life ones partner has been struck with this misery !!! So.... Your responding to my issues is touching and I appreciate it !! I also think as you allude to men are not always the most " natural " caregivers - tough situation - and I want you to know that even when I don't always respond to your posts am always sending good prayer your way and the utmost respect for all you r doing for Kay !! I was glad to see that you had some time away from home to accompany your daughter up to school and hope you took some joy in your little girls new chapter !! It's important for you to get away sometimes and allow the caregiver to take over ! But I could only imagine the scene with the 100 lb Cg having to call the fire department for helpn! And I am sorry to hear about your fall PDF The ladder and hope the crate don't show anything too serious and You will be on the mend soon ! One of the biggest problems my bro and I had in finding our caregiver for mom was that there were several that coups have met moms needs bit were not big enuf to handle her - she is incontinent - so we were lucky that we found who is bigger gal and Has a heart To match her size !'n As far as my mom and the newest concerns -my wish is that as moms health care proxy that her wishes will Be able to be Met in that she will not have too suffer more than necessary to get to the the other side ! I read one of your posts the other day asking about how long this dreadful disease might continue and if it offers u any solace most doctors and other experts on LBD have told me that the decline is almost always rapid - it has been so with our dear mother - but even though she has deteriorated over the last 2 yrs to this late stage - immobile - incontinent - deaf - blind and mute for us the family it has felt like a life time !!!! Thanks for the good cheer in relaying your story and making me laugh - and mostly for taking the time to address my pain - which cuts so deep right now !! God bless and stay strong Judy Judy R. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your experience - it's a rough time for Our family - and I agree that the LBD goes in amd Out in different degrees all the time Judy R. It's as if they are in a different realm at times, but at other times are on the same plain as us and then can see and hear clearly. Many people would not understand this, but I'm sure most of you have experienced this. > >
