So heart breaking -also has been mute for a while now ( 4-5 months) Has anyone seen a loss of hearing and /or sight in later stages of this evil disease ? Appreciate any of your insight into these newest symptoms !! God bless Judy Judy R. Guest guest
In my husband's case, his hearing seemed to get more acute, but his vision dereriorated greatly. For the last 6 years of his life he complained that his glasses didn't correct his vision anymore and he needed a new perscription. Always the result of testing was that there was no diabetic disease evident and his script was the proper one. After he got the dx of LBD, and through talking with others, I found that it is common for the disease to affect the parts of the brain that decode what the person sees. Eventually he could see, but didn't always understand what he was seeing. Hope that helps. And it is common. Guest guest
Yes, my father has steadily lost the ability to process what he sees. At least a year ago he stopped looking at the TV, although he could listen and knew what movie was on and tell me the actors and the story line. And when we had a white message board below the TV, he seemed to watch that rather than the TV. Now today he has clearly declined some more, and his eyes were roving all over; he didn't seem to have any control over them. I gave him some of his favorite chips but he couldn't seem to locate them, then he couldn't get them in his hand or to his mouth. He's really in a decline. A lady we had seen regularly at the AL facility must have died recently, and someone else has already moved into her room. That's something I never expected, that I would grow familiar with and care about the other residents, over time. Guest guest
My personal sense with this experience is that the clarity of sight and sound comes and goes. It's as if they are in a different realm at times, but at other times are on the same plain as us and then can see and hear clearly. Many people would not understand this, but I'm sure most of you have experienced this.
