Guest guest
Is it specific to all/most of us Aspies a " stronger than NT " need to *control* the environment ? Anyone else 'clicking' to this theory of happiness ? http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/HAPPINES.html Thank you for thinking about this ! Guest guest
Interesting theory, and makes sense from an evolutionary point of view, although I wonder if it may have a Western world bias. Someone with an Asian-sounding name suggested that people may be happiest when they surrender the notion of control, citing the examples of drugged states and nirvana. And then there is the Islamic world, who believe strongly in fate or " God's will " . Are they happy? I don't know, as I don't live in such a society, but current world events suggest not. Perhaps an alternative model of happiness would be for someone to surrender all notions of control with the assurance that all of their basic survival needs will be met, as in convents and monestaries, or as in the womb. This may satisfy someone with a highly religious nature, but is not for everyone, as people usually enter convents and monestaries by choice, at least in the West. Even in the examples suggested by the Asian writer, the state of non-control was entered by choice, that is, the choice to meditate or to take the drug. I don't think anyone would be happy being forced to meditate or take drugs. As for Aspies having a stronger need to control the environment, this also makes sense, although the question remains as to whether one insists on controlling the environment for everyone, or simply retreats to one's own space where envorinmental factors are more easily managed. I greatly perfer the latter course, but my father, who is probably also an Aspie, is well known as a " control freak " .
