Guest guest
Tim, There have been a number of references for very good books on Lewy, the disease, process, and its widely varied manifestation which were all very helpful.  As well as tips and items you as caregiver will need to be dealing with to provide support for your LO. I have purchased about 5-6 of them. Two books which generated a slightly different point of view for me were: Life in the Balance: A Physician's Memoir of Life, Love, and Loss with Parkinson's Disease and Dementia by B. Graboys MD. In another life I had the opportunity to share a cup of coffee with him at a national conference many years ago when he was at the peak of his career.  He chronicles his feelings, frustrations and his subjective interpretations and reactions to his symptoms of the disease progression. I felt I was able to get inside the head of a Lewy patient for better understanding and to be more sensitive to separate the disease from the patient. Hence, be able to anticipate several issues for a patients perspective and take extra measures to protect their dignity and ego needs. The other book I found very helpful addressed the sensitivity to my needs and recognition of my limitations of what I as a care giver could provide: Fried: Why You Burn Out and How to Revive by Joan Borysenko (Jan 1, 2011)It provides a good overview of the process of burn out and many solutions that can be used based upon your capacity to tolerate the slings and arrows of constant care giving. Sooner or later we all need to address our own needs first. I personally found it very valuable, in spite of some touchy feely sections. I refe backr to various sections from time to time. I just provided my personal opinion and others may feel differently.  Hope my comments are of value. I feel like I am back in school doing book reports for Sister . Please don't give me a grade.  Very best of luck. Guest guest
Though it isn't specific to LBD, the most valuable book I've found is Caregivers: Drowning in a Sea of Cognitive Challenges Delaune Pollard<http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?_encoding=UTF8 & sort=relevan\ cerank & search-alias=books & field-author=Delaune%20Pollard>(Author, Illustrator), <http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_2?_encoding=UTF8 & sort=relevanc\ erank & search-alias=books & field-author=%20>(Editor) (I copied this from Amazon, sorry about the font.) Especially helpful is a chapter that draws a parallel between levels of cognition and ages of children. It helps me understand my mom's behaviors and helps me be patient with her declining abilities. I give this one multiple thumbs up! Kathy > ** > > > Are there any good books for specifically for LBD to help the caregivers & > patient? Guest guest
I learned so much from the book mentioned. I think it's the only book that I've ever read the glossary, from the first to last word. It has current information about prescription and over-the-counter medications, which is invaluable. The book really has helped in caring for my uncle and understanding caregiver burnout so much better. Guest guest
Please don't forget the Throops. They are in there too and live here in MI.  Amy is still caring for her Mom. I only saw her first Edition and I know they are doing some workshops and have had orders around the world. I haven't read the whole thing but did read parts of it and it is a very handy helper. And if you let them know you are in the group, you use to get a discount. Their book is " Living with Lewy's. "  Donna R Re: books on lbd?  Thank you for all the great suggestions & links to the books. I posted this a couple of days ago but it wasn't posted..?.
