Guest guest
Phyllis, you made me laugh so i guess you are my hidden benefit. i think you could do some stand up comedy for other caregivers. i would pay. i had another benefit today. wife with LBD went to bathroom with toilet LID down, so guess where everything went? i got to learn how to scrub the floor for the 10 th time. now i can do janatorial work. the benefits just keep coming. oh well , as long as we laugh, we will survive. The strong person knows how to withstand substantial loss. -Chinese proverb...................... Subject: Hidden Benefits Phoey !! To: LBDcaregivers Date: Friday, October 14, 2011, 3:38 PM  Here I was thinking we would be rewarded, with a 3 night stay at the Hilton on the beach as a hidden benefit. No such luck !! But I have been looking for some of these benefits and I have to agree with - they just aren't there. I just love being stuck in the house all day and having to dole out pills and clean up diapers, not to mention 3 meals a day to be prepared and chopped up and cleaned up after (the table and the floor), but of course the dog helps out with the floor cleaning, after I check to see that no pills were dropped. Then we have the frequent visitors and sometimes they tell him things that make him get mad at me (unusual benefit). The police arrive at the door at 3 a.m. because he called 911 (police protection-a benefit); he snuck out so I have to get in the car and go look for him (major benefit) !!! The TV is another story - the benefit here is that I will soon know everything about remotes, DVD players etc. - maybe I could get a job with Comcast. Definately a hidden benefit. And I'd be willing to bet that we could all be licensed as caregivers (CNAs) and make upwards of $20.00 per hour. The bottom line here is the difference between doing research and actually living it. But, being an optimist, I will continue to search for these hidden treasures and the very moment I find even one, I will notify you. Bah hum bug !! Guest guest
: My husband will pee on the closed potty chair by his bed or in the trash can beside his bed. The other day, I put a tub of warm, soapy water on top of his potty chair in order to bathe him, ran to the kitchen to grab something, and came back to fine him peeing in that! Oh, and if he has to do anything else, he uses the nearby bathroom, but I have to scrub and sanitize every single time he is done on top of scrubbing him. I would rather he went in his depends! Such is the joy of caregiving. Cassie To: LBDcaregivers From: gary.s.dale@... Date: Fri, 14 Oct 2011 16:53:19 -0700 Subject: Re: Hidden Benefits Phoey !! Guest guest
LOL! Phyllis: I was in my office on the other side of the garage thinking my husband was sleeping when he found the " hidden " remote control for the alarm system and proceeded to set off the alarm. The company summoned the police. The cop let himself in the side door by picking the lock. Not finding anyone inside he chatted with my husband who, of course, could tell him nothing of importance, but who asked him for a bandage for a cut on his arm. The officer complied and started looking around, found a card from his daughter up north, found my cell phone on the kitchen table, looked up the number and called her. She was trying to tell him that I was bound to be around there somewhere and she finally told him to check the garage to see if my car was there. At that point, he saw the light in the office and I was startled when a man stuck his head in the door and asked if I was Cassie. Still wondering how he came to be in my locked house, I said I was and then found out the whole story when he stepped inside the door and I saw the uniform. Oh, yes, such are the joys of caregiving! Guest guest
Hmm I missing that benefit as my mil cannot ambulate without assistance (and very little of that now too). But there are the times I get her right to the toilet and she freaks and says in a shocked voice, " You don't want me to sit on that HOLE do you?!?!?!? " I could have been asking her to chew gum off the sidewalk! It's all I can do to keep from laughing, until I'm trying to get her pants down and keep her standing and she proceeds to let go of everything all over my arm and gloved hand and onto the shoes and floor. Then after all the clean up, the toe touches to try and make sure all's clear, I finally get her standing, go to pull up and here comes more.. Yup there's a benefit I hadn't thought of somewhere . my floor is getting cleaned several times a day at least. -Dorothy From: LBDcaregivers [mailto:LBDcaregivers ] On Behalf Of Cassie Levy Sent: Friday, October 14, 2011 5:40 PM To: LBD Caregivers Subject: RE: Hidden Benefits Phoey !! : My husband will pee on the closed potty chair by his bed or in the trash can beside his bed. Guest guest
Ah, Dorothy. Fond memories. Now, at Mom's SNF, I occasionally have to massage it out because her mind can't tell her muscles what to do.
