Guest guest
Tag, I got weird messages about sex too. Mostly it was because she'd preach that 'good girls don't' but it was more like 'good girls do it and don't talk about it.' Nada would want to tell me about how horrible sex was with my Dad. Then there was the tampon thing, ugh. And then after she and Dad divorced she'd flirt with MY male friends. Yuk. At 14 when a boy was telling me that I had to have sex with him or he'd find another girlfriend, I confided in her what was going on and that I didn't want to have sex with him. Instead of telling me NO, you don't have to do that, NO you're too young, NO NO NO NO NO,....she told me I needed some kind of birth control because this is the way boys are and that it was only going to get worse. It sure did,...instead of listening to her and getting birth control, I refused to have sex with him and he raped me. Thanks, nada, wonderful first experience. I hadn't heard the Lysol wivestale but my nada swore by Fels Naptha. Remember that lye soap? It was the only soap she'd buy for me. I used to hide other kinds that I'd sneak in. LOL,...other kids rode their bikes to the corner store for candy,...I went for soap!! I loved Ivory bar soap and whenever she'd find it in my bathroom (or wherever I'd hide it) she'd throw it out. BTW,...Dr. Bronner's Lavender bar soap is wonderful!! I guess that's why I hoard it now!! Mercy > > Once again, I am so thankful to the members of this board who are willing to talk through such painful and personal subjects. Reading all of your posts has brought me another one of those lightbulb moments and along with that - such relief. This thread is completely fascinating to me. I got all kinds of weird mixed messages when it came to sex and bodily functions also. Here are some of the major things I remember... > > My nada was always telling me she got an infection from having sex with my father. I can remember seeing her squat over a pyrex dish in the bathroom pouring diluted Lysol over her genitals. It was horrible. Apparently there is an old wives tale about Lysol preventing pregnancy, but she thought it would make her clean. I can also remember her douching constantly.
