As a chess player, I would think it is really cool if it is true. On the other

hand, his politics were scary, to say the least. Still, I have learned to

appreciate his strength and feel good about that, while being horrified at other

things about his life. I learned this in my first couple of years of college,

when I learned that my then idol, a famous mathematician with whom I dreamed of

working one day, was a well-known anti-semite, and well known in the (then)

Soviet Union for getting other mathematicians in trouble with the government and

causing them to undergo political nightmares (Gulag, interrogations, more). I

still love his mathematics, but no longer viewed him as anyone I would want to

know personally, and hated his politics. This particular mathematician, in

having survived a tough survivor-like environment, is definitely not on the

spectrum, IMHO. Feel free to wrote me off-list for more detail, if you would

like.

It is really painful, isn't it. He is a traitor in at least two ways. I still

discipline myself to remember the good.
