Guest guest
Joan, I do not know who would receive a brain donation in Texas. We willed our bodies to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San . See http://www.uthscsa.edu/csb/willedbody/willedbodyform.pdf for information. They are in Texas and she wants to donate his brain. Due to the short period of time that her husband has left, if anyone can please let me know where she can donate his brain and how to get the paperwork. Thank you so very much! You can also email me at LewyBodySupportLasVegas@... Joan
Guest guest
Email Robin Riddle. She is the person who knows the most about brain donation. Guest guest
Generally, most Alzheimer's research programs will only accept brains of those with a DLB diagnosis if the person has been participating for several years in research studies with that program. Arrangements for brain donation must be made in advance. I advocate for brain donation to the Mayo Clinic because they get the report back to families faster than most places (8 weeks) and they are actually publishing research. Additionally, arrangements can be made at the last minute for the Mayo Clinic....though this is not ideal because someone with a family member on his/her death bed is pre-occupied with important matters. The ins-and-outs of brain donation and some other LBD caregivers' rationales for donating a family member's brain are well-discussed in this post on the LBDA Forum: http://community.lbda.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26 & t=1290 My advice to all: be smart about the brain bank you plan to use, and make the arrangements far in advance. There's no such thing as too early. > > > > Hi all, > > I have been talking with a lady whose husband is near death. Guest guest
I understand that Hospice can help with brain donation. I started talking to them about that when we put my Mother under Hospice, but she died that night, so it never did happen. in Dallas > > > > > > Hi all, > > > I have been talking with a lady whose husband is near death. Guest guest
I have yet to find a hospice agency that knows about brain donation, but there's a first time for everything! Someone mentioned body donation, which is a very generous thing too. Most universities that accept body donations will not accept the body with the brain removed. Families in our local support group must decide which is more important -- brain donation or body donation. > > > I understand that Hospice can help with brain donation.
