Bonnie, it certainly is possible that MSG could affect someone with LBD

adversely since it affects many people (like me) with a palpitations. However,

it could certainly also be from the amount of soy sauce used since soy sauce has

extremely high sodium content.

Hi Bonnie,

You are the first I have heard to bring this up. I brought it up several

years ago, but no one had experienced the reactions.

My husband dx w/LBD, now deceased, began having reactions to MSG. My first

experience was at a restaurant on vacation with my husband when he had a

horrible attack of coughing and choking on phlegm. It wasn't a Chinese

Restaurant, but I believe they tenderized their meat at that time with MSG. It

happened a few times after at home and I never cooked with MSG, but found it

labeled as one of the soup ingredients and in other cans of things that I used

in cooking at that time and I came to the conclusion that it was MSG causing

this reaction. As soon as I stopped using those items in cooking the reactions

stopped. I made sure wherever we ate did not use MSG in their cooking. It wasn't

until LBD showed up that he had these reactions, so I think it has some tie in

with LBD and the LO's sensitivity to react to certain things.

Has anyone had experience with Monosodium Glutamate reactions with

LBD patients?

My DH was taken to the hospital last night via aid car due to an

extreme blood pressure rise.  We had been out to dinner at our

favorite Chinese restaurant the night before, and, he had eaten the

leftovers for lunch.  His high blood pressure seemed to appear after

he had eaten the leftovers. He also had checked his blood pressure

while picking up prescriptions at Walmart on the drive home after the

restaurant meal, and it was high then also.  I read on line that

there are many reactions people can have to it, and, a vast rise in

blood pressure is one on a long list of possibilities.  There,

however,  is no set list, and there are so many variations of

symptoms on the list, making it hard to rule out any of the possibilities.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Sorry if this has already been posted. It is not showing up on my list, so I am

sending again. Maybe Yahoo changed so what I send does not show up on my side.

Hi Bonnie,

Only have had personal problems with MSG. The first time I noticed (years

ago) it occurred after eating Chinese food - the kind that came in two cans

you prepared at home - became very dizzy and felt very weird. I was a

young mother and neither my husband or children had any reaction. As Janet

also wrote it is in many canned foods as well. I now read labels very

carefully. I have a friend who also experiences this. She is in her

80's and doesn't have LBD. Given how sensitive LBD patients are with many

drugs, it makes sense that our loved ones could be overly sensitive to MSG

as well. And as another wrote the added salt from the soy sauce could give

a double whammy for those with high blood pressure.

Most Chinese restaurants will gladly omit the MSG if you ask them and some

don't use it at all anymore.
